And I love how everyone who can't afford insurance comes into these types of threads and likes to add how they're such badasses that they cut them themselves. I tried that ****, and it never got anywhere...It usually gets to the point where you have to cut your own ****ing tissue from the nail, and that's not even doable for most people.
Um... I have health insurance... and I have taken out in-grown toenails before. I just used a needle and a nail clipper and cleaned it out. It hurt but w/e I just don't like going to the doctor if I can fix the problem myself...

I had an ingrown fingernail once, hurt like a *****!

Ya I have health insurance too but I just sort of broke the nail a bit, like it wasn't dug to deep on the entire side, just near the tip.

If you have ever gotten rid of an ingrown toenail by yourself, you haven't had a bad one.

They get to the point where if someone would, say, flick it, you would sit down, or hop around on one foot with the pain. That is when you go to the doctors, they get these shots ready and wooden sticks to shove down into your skin to expose the nail. Then they grind away at the nail and cut it until it comes out of the skin. Then wrap it in a gause wrap and send you on your way.

Had it done once. Now I take better care of the toenails.

same
I don't cut the entire nail though. I open it up enough to find the irregularity on the side and just clip that off. It's a spike thingy.

Then I pour peroxide into it.

QFT.

I've had an ingrown toenail surgery done before when I was in 6th grade but only because my toe became very infected. Even though they gave me 3 shots to numb the pain it didn't work and the doctor told me that he couldn't give me anymore numbing agent so he went along with the surgery. One of the worst pains of my life.

Whenever I get one now I just get a bowl of hot water, pour some epsom salt into it, and just soak my toe in it for a while and squeeze any puss out. After the toe's dry and the area around the ingrown toenail isn't enflamed anymore I just cut/dig it out. I will never have another ingrown toenail surgery.

We have insurance, and i've had ingrown toenail before. Yes, the really, really painfull kind. I just have an intolerance to shots. I just go kamikaze on my toe and get all the pus out, then i cut the toenail.

I have insurance but decided to do it myself. The doctors office wastes my time and the doctors, he could be treating people with more serious or worse things than an ingrown toenail. And if you take care of them early things aren't as bad.

Get epsom salt and put it in a bucket of hot water. Mix it up like you would when making warm salt water to gargle.

Put your infected foot in it and let it soak for 15-30minutes and add hot water if needed. While sitting there, sterilize a pair of tweezers and a small clipper. Take your foot out of the water. Press out whatever puss you can and wipe it off again. Then put it back in the epsom salt water. Pull the flesh to the side and use the tweezers to expose the irregular spike on the side of the nail. Use the clipper to cut it away.

Here's the painful part. Pour peroxide into it. Rinse it out with water. Then put it in another bath of epsom salt. It should be better within hours.

When I picked my toenails long ago, that always worked.
