I recently finished A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin and Seven Hells is it good. I'm about to begin the second book in the series, A Clash of Kings. If you're a fantasy fan, or you enjoy the show on HBO, this series is a must-read.

I'm trying to get through Game Of Thrones, but finding it almost unbearably boring. So many people I've talked to compared him to Steven Erikson, which I took to be great praise, but I honestly can't see the similarities. Aside from the fact that they're both fantasy authors.

Martin's characters are static and unlikable, even the ones I'm supposed to care about. The plot is stagnant; little to nothing happens in the entire first third of the book. I bet if he spent less time telling me useless details about what people were eating, wearing, or how they smelled, he could have been done the book 200 pages sooner.

I'll finish the book. I did buy it. But I won't be all too giddy to pick up the next one.

I'm reading the third book in the series, A Storm of Swords, and I love it. Going to order the 4th as soon as the 5th is ready to ship from Amazon in July.

I've got the first 3 "Malazan Book of the Fallen" books by Steven Erikson sitting in a box waiting for me to finish R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series.

If you didn't like Game of Thrones, likely you won't like any of the sequels. It's really his best work. He gets more derivative and his storytelling becomes more drawn out. He also throws in cliffhangers like he's going to finish his next novel next week and not five years from now.

Hater by David Moody.

Never heard of it before, but when the book store didn't have my next Malazan book, I made an impulse buy off the 'Staff Picks' wall. It's pretty meh so far. Reminds me a lot of M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening, only with assaults/murders rather than suicides.

Not all the way through it yet, but if it turns out to be the plants I'll be upset.
