"You are standing on the edge of all eternity
You can see the black abyss and you can feel no pain.
Plague at your door - death and pure war.
A world unkind is what you'll find
Transfixed by the torture - you can't turn back..
On the edge of darkness - you're trapped, you're gagged, you're silent
Staring at the abyss that fills your world
Balance of existence offset - severed - it's no more
Everything is turned upside down
An abyss where nothing is found
Overcome - you're shocked in terror
It's not real - it's just a vision!"
Origin - Staring From The Abyss

"Let me tell you about the loss of all - the failure of all that we hold dear
Wrapped up nicely in ourselves.
Chaos resolves that which order defiles.
Worthless lives are ordered blind.
I don't believe - I don't believe
Taste and you will see that all belongs to me
I don't believe - I won't believe!
I raise my hand against it all!
For those who don't recognize the call.
Will the sense to overcome these nestled walls?
Gonna break it, gonna break it, gonna break it down!
I don't believe - I don't believe!
Taste and you will see that all belongs to me
I don't believe - I won't believe..
Let me nail you to the treason wall
Stab the night and the day from your sight
And set the thought to flame..."
Dark Tranquillity - The Treason Wall

"Sometimes it feels like I'm trapped in my own mind...
I can feel my thoughts slipping away - am I going insane?
I can see it there on the wall - the door that leads me out
Whose head is this now? Are these my own memories?
Is it the feelings that makes us human?
So, what am I now?
Am I a man, or just another empty, hollow shell?
I feel no pain - I feel no sorrow
The time is right - the time is now!
The world will cry - the world will turn!
I am the eternity's child!"
Mors Principium Est - Eternity's Child

"Why is this control? Behavior based and reactive
Adapting to every new environment
Rewarded when I replicate - isolate and mutate
To assimilate a fragmented plea for ego.
Trained - I see imperfection in your race
Lying in wait, blind I suffer knowing I'll never reach
Your Heaven - it's unattainable
Please teach me how to dream...I long to be more than a machine."
Nevermore - Sentient 6

"Boom boom is the beating that I hear in the night
But no one hears so no one knows and
NO ONE
NO ONE
NO ONE
NO ONE ****S WITH ME!"
Strapping Young Lad - AAA

"The squadron leader makes the call
Hunt down this bastion of verminous scum.
Show no mercy - take no prisoners
Negotiations are now over!
A boot to your chest - a knife to your throat
CONFESS!
Give away locations, motives - cooperate or die!
There comes a time when military might must be unconfined
No holds barred and no hands tied
It's time to do or die!"
Vile - Devour

Just a few.

Casablanca - Emarosa

I'm watching the sky turn from black to the grey
and this is the end i know we're not afraid
surrender your hands its to late to let go
we're still breathing, dont stop breathing
the ground is falling under my feet
we're still around here
we're fading with time
there's no fear open your eyes
we're standing still now
we're going nowhere
its not to late to crawl its not to late

reach the end ill meet you there
in a world that never let you in
in a world where you found grace
i watched the water pull you in
(as it carries you away)

i know you wont let fall on my own
there's no reason reason to abandon here

open your eyes and witness the power
of a place thats lost control
his creation at its finest
its what we call our home

my life passes by as the sky starts to fade
if this is the end i know im not afraid
the meaning of this is becoming so clear
prepare for the worst this is going to be hell
i know you wont be there i fall alone
tell me why i am still standing here

You can't spell "crap" with-out the C - The Devil Wears Prada

I wish to turn around and return (to her warmth and laughter),
but this calling is strong, and denial is impossible.
No measure of weight can justify what now presses into my chest.
To the road, your freedom is awesome,
but does it compare to the sweet embrace of my love?
Our convictions engraved by her marvelous hands.
My ears are upon the brink of detonation,
and the mud amongst the passage of my throat is drying to permanence.
Harvest the crop of memories.
To what's true, I offer thanks.
I've found what's pure and I've found what's sweet.
We are not barren

Honestly you just need to listen to the song rather then read the lyrics but blah.

But its just another day
Its just another day
Watching girls on the street
Well, that alright with me
But its just another day

Dont live in the past
I blink my eyes
And the moment is over
I guess another day
Has passed

But its just another day
Its just another day
Watching girls on the street
Well, that alright with me
But its just another day

Bobby doll and big jim picato
Always there with their free advice
Theyve got pearl handled pistols
Underneath their wests
They want me to go out drinking
With them tonight

But its just another day
Its just another day
Watching girls on the street
Well, that alright with me
But its just another day

You got to clean white sheets
In the mornin? br> conversation all afternoon
Bobby doll and big jim picato, baby
And me and you

But its just another day
Its just another day
Watching girls on the street
Well, that alright with me

Again you need to listen to the song, but this lyric always stuck out in my mind and was so poinent.

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away, and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life, and what she's done to it
There's one more kid that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool.

Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them
So I try to forget it, any way I can.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world

Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,

We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people, says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.
And finally my favorite one by Neil Young, Again you need to listen to the song but its one of those great lines...

It's better to burn out
Than to fade away

Out of the blue
and into the black

but you pay for that
And once you're gone,
you can never come back
When you're out of the blue
and into the black.

The king is gone
but he's not forgotten
This is the story
of a Johnny Rotten
It's better to burn out
than it is to rust
The king is gone
but he's not forgotten.

Hey hey, my my
Rock and roll can never die
There's more to the picture
Than meets the eye.
Hey hey, my my.

That was a cover of NIN. Such a killer cover though, his voice was just made for that song, I only wish that he and NIN had done a version together as that would have been insane.

Nine inch Nails did the song in 94, Cash covered it in 2002.

yea I know... I think Trent Resnor(sp) actually covered it solo and ended up putting it on the NIN CD but I like the Johnny Cash version much better because it just seems like he has so much more emotion put into it and it matches his life way to well

Choices always were a problem for you.
What you need is someone strong to guide you.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow,
what you need is someone strong to guide you..
like me, like me, like me, like me

If you want to get your soul to heaven,
trust in me .
Now don't you judge or question.
You are broken now ,
but faith can heal you.
Just do everything I tell you to do.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow.
What you need is someone strong to guide you.
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow.
Let me lay my holy hand upon you.

My Gods will
becomes me.
When he speaks out,
he speaks through me.
He has needs
like I do.
We both want
to rape you.

[x2]
Jesus Christ, why don't you come save my life now
Open my eyes and blind me with your light

If you want to get your soul to heaven,
trust in me .
Now don't you judge or question.
You are broken now ,
but faith can heal you.
Just do everything I tell you to do.

Im Ready - Jacks Mannequin

I wake up to find it's another
Four aspirin morning, and I dive in
I put on the same clothes I wore yesterday.
When did society decide that we had to change
And wash a tee shirt after every individual use:
If it's not dirty, I'm gonna wear it.
I take the stairs to the car
And there's fog on the windows.
And I'm Fighting the words...
I need caffeine in my blood stream,
I take caffeine in the blood stream.
I grip the wheel and all at once I realize:
And you're getting away...
My life has become a boring pop song
And everyone's singing along.

Nah it was written by Reznor and came out on "The Downward Spiral".

Reznor has done it solo(ish) a few times but never to my knowledge totally solo.
