I guess I have just heard too many serious outrageous claims about Metallica's technnical skills.

On another note, I think Brent Smedley (Iced Earth) did a decent amount of technical drumming on Framing Armageddon. Not the fastest guy out there by any means, but he matched Schaffer's guitar with the bass drum a lot. Good examples (I think) are Alive in Athens and FA.

You forgot the dodgy.

Carter Beuford from DMB is probably the best of both worlds. He uses double bass, but musically. He has one of the deepest pockets and just grooves.
|
You're the first person I've heard of, other then myself and my friend, who mentions Carter Beuford. I agree with you whole heartedly.

if you want good technical drumming, listen to louie bellson. he practically invented the use of a double pedal in jazz.

But this thread isn't about vocals... its about drummers, which their drummer does not deserve to be noted as "tallented"

ok now hold on
First off i will state this.
I am a drummer and in my own band. (should be going to the studio next month to record our EP)
Now i like august burns red alot, but they arent like my fave band on the earth.I tend to listen to more hardcore/metalcore(bands like:the devil wears prada) then straight "metal".(all that remains, children of bodom etc)
Which is why i prefer ABR over straight up metal bands because of their hxc driven breakdowns.
Now onto the drummer
ABRs drummer is amazing, have you ever listened to the eleventh hour?
Take into mind,he had to write that whole song,i think its a master piece.
listen to the song : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-xreduNKvU
for another good band with a good drummer, check out Mortal Treason
and i bet no one has heard of them lol.
EDIT: plus, dude your immature if you think less of them as a band because they stand up for what they believe in.It takes balls.

Congrats for them? The religion bull**** didn't start until they got their new vocalist.

edit: My buddy is a huge ABR nutthugger. I've been hearing about them for quite awhile now. They're over rated, just like AILD, killswitch, a7x, etc etc
Sure i guess they're not the worst possible, generic sounding metalcore, but they're not good.

I haven't seen one post so far from Roaming Fighter that hasn't mentioned his own band, said "hxc" or state the fact that he loves "Eleventh Hour" by ABR so much.
Favorite drummer is Navene Koperwies from Animosity. Very groove oriented for a metal drummer, which I like. But for double bass, check out more bands stated earlier, like Nile, Origin, etc.
And whoever said Waking the Cadaver earlier, I hope you were joking. Probably one of the worst/sloppiest drummers I've ever heard. "Slam" is gay.

At least Someone has an idea of technical.....My vote goes to the guys who can actually play good without triggers. I'll give ya Chris Adler and Jason Bittner but just have a hard time putting technical and death metal in the same league.
You want technical feet then Thomas lang is the end of discussion

Sits like a Jazz drummer, all heel down. 55-58 seconds was probably the sickest death metal drum fill I have ever heard. (Origin)
and
http://youtube.com/watch?v=IRQKMkOuDG4
Kollias is good for speed, and technicality, check out the one foot blasts. (Nile)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=IRQKMkOuDG4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAcYVObSmcA
Gotta love Lord Marco. (Brain Drill, Vornagar, and used to drum for The Faceless)
But I love Thomas Lang.
Some other bands that I should mention
Meshuggah- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5YEqmIIdj8 Very weird drummer, uses polymetric rhythms.
Spawn of Possesion- http://youtube.com/watch?v=fwr5004b4Dw Not the drummer, but gives you an idea of how technical it is.
