So I have to learn to play slide guitar for 'Alcohaulin' ***' and 'Turn the Page'. Anybody want to give me any tips? I bought three slides today, a thin brass one I can put on my pinky or on my ring finger, and a glass 'blues bottle' I use on my pointer finger that's better to play on my electric because I have a low action and super-slinky strings. I know it's a bad guitar to play slide on but it's the only electric I have besides acoustic/electric.
Gonna wanna change your action, low action ruins slide tone because the slide bangs into the frets. I use my middle, allows for the most control of it. Make sure to mute the strings youre not playing with your picking hand or else theyll ring out and sound ****ty.

Get thicker gauge strings too. At least .12's.
Sorry for interrupting the A to B conversation. I work at a guitar store so I know this stuff. haha.

The thing is, I also have to play regular solos and stuff so I can't be changing up everything now, especially not making the jump from .09's to .12's, but I might try changing the neck height a little.

The suggestion to switch to thicker strings is just a suggestion to produce better sound. Try .10's though at least. And if you mean adjusting neck height, as to truss rod adjustments, that will make doing hammer-ons and pull-offs harder by just a bit.

Have you tried playing with thicker strings before? You may find that you like it more. It took me a while to do so and I can't play anything but .11's now. They do require a tad bit more strength to hold down, but your fingers adapt very quickly. They also are harder to bend, but you don't have to bend them as far, so it's pretty much just as easy. You'll get more tone out of them and they'll be harder to break on you.
And, in this situation, it'll help you with your slide playing. But if you have to learn it by Friday, then...

I used to love d'addario until I started playing lead more. Ernie Balls tend to have a looser feeling to them, which to me, makes it easier to pull off stuff like sweeps cleaner and easier. I've made the transition back and forth several times.
The only drawback to EB's to me is brand new ones sound really clangy on the clean channel, it takes a week or two for that to go away though.
I started using the nanoweb elixirs recently. I really like them. They stay sounding fresh for forever. Even though they cost twice as much as D'addarios and EB (I get them for cheap though ), they last 3 times as long.
I love elixirs for acoustics. Every taylor i have played has been strung with them and I can honestly say playing with them is a blast and they sound great.
