sorry about the title, i was just mad when i read the email from the NPPL. i don't feel as though it accurately paints a picture of what's going on in the league.
i found this in my email inbox from the NPPL. it's an excerpt from their year end email:
"Quoted by players, media and sponsors alike as being the greatest NPPL event of the year, if not ever, the San Diego NPPL surpassed many expectations
HA! "if not ever"... no, no one would say that. no one.
the weather sucked... maybe because the last event was scheduled in december.
between the last game we played in KC and the first game in SD there were 2 HUGE screw ups by the nppl. first they allowed a tie, i think we can all agree that was retarded. their second mistake was to change the center court field right before the tournament. not a big deal? it is when other teams get to practice the field and you don't. we missed sunday by 2 eliminations... over 8 games. two of the games we lost were on center court to teams who played the field just before the tournament.
the only decent part of SD was the vendors area which was the best one i've seen in a while... too bad that has nothing to do with actually playing.
"The NPPL has received many compliments on the quality refereeing at this event and we would like to thank all of those officials who did such an amazing job..."
more lies. the reffing was the same inconsistent refereeing that it always is. some refs are really good, but they're the exception. there was the usual blatant wiping on all sides plus refs making up rules. i.e. at the end of our last game two image players stood up and starting shooting about 5-10 seconds after the game went to time. more over, they shot erik quite a bit in the process and missed me as i dove for cover... result? at first they called a 2 for 1 on us. then after a long argument they ended up giving us both a 1 for 1. shooting at people after a game because you're pissed is kind of insane. a 1 for 1 is a light sentence.
this has been the worst year for the NPPL since the split, and the people in charge lie. not just in the email, which is really more propaganda, but to people. dave zinkham [i originally put dan perez, sorry dan. thanks hass for the correction] lied to us about the teams who complained; there was only one (infamous), but they said there were 6 even though he wouldn't name them. then they said that both rich telford (xsv) and ron kilborn (bushwackers), who are on the field building comity, had decided to change the field even though both of them denied this decision to us personally [hass talks more about this below]. this is weird because dave is usually pretty down for fixing stuff. hass and him talk all the time and fix minor little glitches in the format, so we got kind of pissed when they lied to us. it was just insulting.
all we're asking for is a level playing field. currently the NPPL is putting their interests, exciting games, in front of the participants desire for fairness.
on a side note: the psp is just strange to me. i don't get them.
