im starting to see people bake ego 7's and stuf like that, these guns are milled paper thin already, and yes it expands and contracts and every time it does that it makes the body a little weaker, its only a matter of time before somthing catastrophic happens. like i was saying about the dark dm4, some of those bodys were too thin to hold air, stock, imagine what would happen to a body like that if it got baked..............boom.......luckily most of the dark dm4's that exploded, did so under testing conditions in the factory....not in somones face.
Egos don't operate at 900 psi.. The only part I see becoming a risk factor is the HPR, and ASA.. on top of that, I don't see aluminum shattering like glass, like your implying it to.

I don't see how heating alum is going to make it weaker. Think about it, it was a liquid at multiple points already, then it was molded into stock which was bought by companies and milled into the body we buy. Keep in mind that they didn't just create the aluminum, it's an element. As such all of it has been liquified at one point or another by the earth.

And that's how they repair tanks that don't have damage to the fiber, they heat 'em up and smothe it out.

Most metals, while in fabrication, go through a process called annealing (a series of heating and cooling) to make it much stronger than when in its raw elementary state. Thus is done at the factory where the blanks are made, as well as purification, so the effects of anything that could have happened before are quickly negated. In milling, the blanks are shaped cold and the material maintains the properties with which it left the factory. It is an extremely meticulous process that is difficult to understand, but heating it to such high temperatures after the fact can have nothing but a negative impact. Granted, I don't think that 500 degrees is enough to weaken the marker to a point that it becomes unsafe (this website says 800 degrees is the point at which aluminum anneales: http://www.metalshapers.org/tips/covell/annealing.shtml ), but I would not trust it enough to do it myself.

In response to your point about repairing fiber tanks, all I can do is reveal to you that it has no relevance whatsoever. They are made out of carbon fiber, which is a bundle of carbon fibers (obviously) hardened in an epoxy resin. Heat does nothing to help the strength of the tank, but it can be used to reshape it with no other effects.

So you were being sarcastic? Splendid! I was starting to think that you were a grade-A idiot.
I took the tank thing at face value even though I'd never heard of it. It would be foolish to do on your own, but it could be done professionally by adding another layer of resin.

Sarcasim? No.

I was informed by an airsmith that another layer of resin would not work, the only option was to partially liquify the present resin and smothe over the damage.

Any sort of repair of this nature MUST be done by a professional.

Another layer of resin wouldn't help? Perhaps not if you're talking about any substantial crack or deep scratch, but if you're referring to a surface scratch as I first thought, just another layer would help to smooth it to the touch. I suppose he has the final authority, but carbon fiber is carbon fiber and it can be compunded, at least superficially, for the purpose of refinishing texture.

You are correct, though, that it must be done by a professional only.
