Cheater Boards

What boards were used with magnets? I'm having a debate, and someone said there was no such thing as boards that deactivate without magnets, and I think there are. Can anyone back me up?

There was a RUMOR years ago about a player (I cant remember if it was a Pro or not) having a board that had a cheat activation when a magnet was placed by it. This player had magnets placed in his gloves while playing so that he could activate it but if a ref wanted to check it it would de-activate due to the lack of magnets.

How true this rumor is is unknow to me.........But I tend not to believe rumors unless there is hard evidence to support it.

wouldn't be that hard to do really, just mod a switch into the board that when activated would put the board on ramping or whatever...a magnet glued to a microswitch could make that work if you had the know-how.

That is a lot of work to get a few extra balls per second.

Seriously, why not just play with the correct settings.

from what i heard, a few years back russian players in europe had magnets in the fingers to keep them stuck to their triggers resulting in higher bps in semi.. maybe this turned into a cheater board gossip thingy...

I don't know about a pro doing it, but I know I worked on a Shocker Turbo that had one about 5 or 6 years ago. It's pretty simple. Any slide, snap, or momentary switch can run parallel with a reed switch. If the legal setting for the switch is closed, then you put a normally closed reed switch across the contacts, and locate the body of the switch where a magnet can activate it. If it's open to be legal, get a NO switch, and wire it up the same way.

The thing is, most modern boards won't be helped by this, since they have to either be powered down for a mode change to take effect, or they are programed by trigger pulls, and not switches located on the board. You might be able to get it into an illegal mode without removing the grip, buy you aren't going to be able to get out of it without shutting down the gun, and powering it back up, and by that time, the ref should be escorting you off the field.
It worked well on the Shocker Turbos because they would change modes on the fly, without powering down the board, with just the flick of the selector switch at the front of the gun.

there used to be a mod for timmies and other guns where you would wire a reed switch to the microswitches ground and unused contact. so when a magnet was close and the reed switch was activated. it would fire on the pull and release. thus doubling rof

Yup... rather easy to do too. Blatently obvious if you look at the board, but easy.
