Regarding the Search Limit...

Seriously guys it needs to go!

Here's my proposal -

1. Make a general sticky in this section of the forum that states PbN's current stance on the Search Limit (IE, it stays, get ASM if you want to search with 1.5K+ members active).
2. Ban or infract all members making threads proposing alterations to the Search Limit.

It is honestly getting quite beat, having bi-daily posts regarding the search limit. PbN's stance on the matter is obvious; the search limit stays in order to provide a clean-flowing site in times of high traffic, and the removal of the search limit is only to be bestowed upon PbN's loyal supporters.

If staff has explained it once, they have explained it a million times. The horse is dead, the corpse is long decayed; stop beating it.

I agree.

Except you exaggerated about how often it's posted.
I check this section almost every day and it's no where near daily or bi-daily.

I'll agree, my quote was exaggerated -

BUT, there have been minor outbursts where it has been that often...

(edit: When searching titles of the "Suggestion Box" for the word "search", there are 5 pages of results; most of which are requesting changes to the search feature.)

I vote that search is disabled for "guest" users. Only users actually logged in should be allowed to search. This will also keep the user limit down for the search function.

I meant as in a sticky announcing their final say, and the point that if any relating threads occurred, internet justice would be laid down.

Your kidding right? If you read what it says it says there are 1.5k MEMBERS online so you can't search. It does not apply if guests are online.

don't waste your time here. Pbnation doesn't want to give it's users what they want. I tried...and many others have too! Thanks for adding to the group though

To start, sites such as EBAY have much higher traffic volumes and dont make you have a special account to search. I guess you could argue that Ebay's servers are bigger and able to handle more bandwidth. But sites such as craigslist.com that don't have ads and are free do just fine.

But its still free and lag free

I say that PBNation should allow 24/7 searching, try it out at least, if it truly does slow the servers then take it away.

All I see are people "assuming" the the PBNation servers cant handle it and as far as I can tell don't really know what they are talking about.

If I am wrong in assuming the PBNation hasn't tried the 24/7 searching then I will admit it, but I dont think its ever been done.

There you go. Searching wasn't limited in the past, it dragged the database server down like crazy. Nobody's assuming anything, we've just been here a while.

Yea, but I (am going to assume) for a second that the servers have since been upped to help with the increase in accounts???

The number of users has also increased. Believe me, searching a is a monstrous problem for a collection of data of any sort.

Are you honestly comparing Ebay and Craigslist to pbnation? Btw, Ebay owns 25% of Craigslist, I'm willing to bet they have significantly more hardware than we do.

Yea and pbnation has significantly less traffic..............
either way I work at a computer store, so what would pbnation need to speed things up?

Not the kind of hardware you sell at a computer store.

I think they would need probably like $50,000 at least to make it anywhere feasible. to update all the software, and add a few more servers...
