Do I have a crappy gun?

Hello,

I was playing paintball at the field near my house yesterday and when I asked the guy what upgrades their are for my gun, he said a slingshot it better than my gun! I have an 05 Spyder Xtra (according to some sites) or an 07 Spyder Xtra (according to pbreview). So... is that true?

1, tell the guy youll bet him $200 if he wins a 1on1 against you, you using your spyder and him using a slingshot.
2. your gun isnt the best out there, but Im sure for what you do the marker is fine, its all preference, its only a crappy gun if it feels crappy to you.

The extra is a decent beginner gun, but I wouldn't go trying to play any large tournaments with it. I would reccomend getting a different used gun if you want to upgrade yours much, but if you just want a new barrel or something you can get any spyder threaded barrel and that would be fine.

Guns are mainly preference for which one you get. If you like your gun and think it works great, then keep it and use it.

The Xtra is an entry level gun. There's nothing wrong with your gun, but upgrades should be made around it... not to it. HPA tank, better loader, and your personal skills. When time and money permit, a "better" marker can be bought and your new equipment will let it perform it's best.

i started playing tourneys with a spyder imagine. its a good gun for just starting out, rec play, pick up games etc. have fun with it, shoot some people. any upgrades you should look into would be a better than stock barrel, high pressure compressed air tank (instead of C02) and a better loader. the barrel is inexpensive and will help out with ur accuracy. the air tank will be much needed as most fields have switch to hpa instead of co2 and loader will help you be able to shoot more than 5 balls a second with out worrying about chopping. both of which can be used when u decide to go with another marker down the road

Yeah, after christmas, if I get any money, I am going to buy an HPA tank, I have any Eggy 3 loader yesterday, which works great for me and also it doesn't work that well. It shoots a lot to the left, it starts straight, goes left, then drops at the end, for close range shots it is fine though. The only time I could upgrade my gun would be on my birthday, which is 9 months away still. I will try to get an HPA tank. This is one I was looking at and can afford at my local field

That Jackass is probably sponsored out the wazoo and didnt pay a cent for them or he has way too much money to know what to do with.
To solve your shooting problem, invest in a longer (14" should do you) Barrel. Rifled if you're having a problem with it veering left since I think the rifling corkscrews it clockwise solving your problem. Trust me, if you're using a spyder, never ask the guys with the Matrixes and Egos about it, because they'll just downtalk it.

The barrel can have an affect on the way the ball moves in the air...but remember. Why did firearm and ammunition manufacturers go to the bullet instead of the ball? Its a round object spinning through the air, it's going to move, even if only a little.

You don't need a rifled barrel. If you were shooting paintballs in the shape of bullets, sure, but again i come back to this: Its a round ball, rifeling will do nothing for it.

I just suggested the rifling because if gives the ball some regular direction rather than having it corkscrewing left and down in it's spin resulting in his problem. The rifling would probably remove the "musket effect". I had a spyder that did the same thing and an empire twister on that sucker straightened it out.

Redeem is correct. A ball will never be stable in the air, but there's a good change it's your barrel causing your constant drift.

A 10" to 14" barrel would be the only upgrade I'd do to that particular marker. You've got a good loader already, so a HPA tank is the only thing to get before upgrading markers.

I hate to be a debbie downer, but you got lucky with that. Unless its a bullet shaped paintball, the rifling could potentially cause the ball to spin more causing the ball to move more. Now, that doesnt usually happen because how often is it that a paintball is the exact bore size of your barrel? Not often. So will it likely catch and be affected by the rifeling? Not likely, but its possible.

I already have a 12 inch barrel
It doesn't just move a little bit, I actually have to at the middle of the house if I am trying to get someone at the side, I am not a run and gunner, I go close, but not THAT close.
What is an LP?
What do E-Grips do?

E-Grip just means Electronic frame. Gives it automatic capabilities on most spyder boards or just lets you fan the trigger increasing the bps.
LP= Low Pressure. Increases consistency and hence accuracy
Check your bolt. I've heard rumours that removing the venturi striker from Spyder bolts (the star shaped copper coloured thing in the middle of the bolt) can increase accuracy. Check a guide on the internets on removing the locktite if you go this route

I don't think I want higher bps right now, I went through at least 700 balls yesterday, good thing it was half price day! Also, I'll check my bolt soon, probably in a few hours, I have some stuff I have to do . What gun is good for shooting sort of far, and it accurate, but is not too much? I am not one of those people who go fully auto or keep on shooting people, I am an aim, then shoot when they pop out person, that is why my gun bothers me so much. Also, not too big or too expensive, I am going to return my gun to my friend who I bought it from and the pod, I'm keeping the mask though . What gun should I get? I am hoping under $200 please
