Well another weekend and yet another tournament series finale, well let me change that not just another tournament this is the Splat Riot after all. I mean come on they had more prizes at this event than at any other "local" event than I have ever seen. This one like the last two tournaments I have attended was held at Hollywood Sports Park and as you will see there is a small change in the images. You see it rained the night before and left the fields drentched in nasty mud puddles of paint and god knows what else! Of course that did not stop me from doing my thing mostly barefoot (instead of the slippers because I kept slipping) and this did not stop the players from diving head first into the muck.
Over all this was a great event thanks to the great reffing (made up of NPPL refs and some of the local field refs including a few Spat Kids and LAW players). It seamed like there was quiet a bit of complaining of a few of the players part for getting one for ones for playing on but that came to a sudden halt when they found it would just not be tollerated.
If I had to complain about anything it would be that I am not one for advocating ramping at this level of play and find it unsafe. I mean there was a ton of players who could not control their markers, shooting their bunker 5 or 6 shots before rounding the bunker and actually shooting a ball or two to the other side of the field. If this sounds like something you do let me add you a a crappy paintballer and need to get out of ramping events (please..I asked nice right?). These players took out more sideline people including refs and photographers than they had balls go to the other side of the field. Come on guys (and gals) learn to handle your marker and if you can't maybe you need to step back and ask yourself if you should be on the field because you are going to hurt someone. Oh ya and let me add if you are one of those players who think you can walk off the field nice and slow when you get shot and cry like a baby when a kid blows your head off shooting 15 balls per second, get off the field because staring down the guy that just shot you is only going to get you shot more.
Ok got that off my chest back to the games. The Riot Series (as it was born) started off pretty small and since joing forces with Splat Magazine has really been taking a huge step up in the right direction. I would not be suprised to see this become a two day event next year. After all throw a great event with killer prizes and you will draw more and more teams. If you think you can handle the ramp step up in 08 and show what you are made of....you may end up walking away with more prizes than you can carry. If you are looking for scores please check out the Splat Riot web site at www.spaltriot.com
Enjoy the paintball pictures and see you on the field soon. Looks like I get a few weeks off and may be doing a pro shoot next weekend so check back.
