ya i've played pretty much everywhere in the socal area. i've even made the drive up to conquest from souther orange county. i haven't "hated" any one field, but you (ion victor) need to try playing places a few times before you make judgment calls like that. i understand you're new and you got "lit up" but that happens in airball ALL THE TIME. i'm not flaming just setting things straight and trying to give you some good advice. maybe if getting lit up is a problem you should consider what you're looking for in paintball. if you want to get into speedball and tournaments that kind of thing frequently happens and as harsh as it sounds you kinda need to suck it up. you get used to it and after a while you'll see it as the norm.
when i started playing i mostly went to jungle island (compound) before i got serious and dedicated myself to tournament paintball. in my opinion i like their recball better than hsp or sc (their main competition for ppl around here).
at sc i hate the number of ppl that show up and a lot of the time there are just too many stupid ppl ruining the day. sc also is hit or miss with the refs, some of them are amazing and others seem like they don't play very much if at all so they can't translate what a player wants from a ref onto the field. their airball always leaves something to be desired. whether its bunkers being flat and dirty, turf mising, folded up, or just plain gross, the fields aren't always symetrical, and i'm always having to keep an eye out for those weights they use to anchor the bunkers (dumb).
hsp is ok, but not always having byop is a little annoying and i'll never play rec there ever again. if i wanted to pay a ton for paint that doesn't break i'd buy reball. every single time i go the refs literally yell instructions at you, and i don't mean volume, i mean they seem like they just found you sleeping with their mom and want to kill you. airball at hsp is alright, their refs down at the lower field are pretty good, i've never played their upper field so i duno about that but the small lower field isn't very good condition but its chill down there and ppl tend to leave u alone. i also hate the staging situation at hsp, i've had a lot of stuff stolen there and you can't fit a gear bag (or very much stuff for that matter) in those lockers.
all in all i'd have to say that no matter what you're looking for jungle island/compound tends to have a really good facility. turf at the compound would b nice but their dirt is actually pretty good. its not level but its flat and raked out well. they're usually pretty quick to remember ppl and you don't hafta worry about ppl walking off with yur stuff and the staging right at the field entrances is great. they're also one of the few fields that actually has a full 4500psi fill
their prices aren't bad so unless yur talking about a few months ago when it was $25 + $10 for air then the new price of $25 w/air is a fair price.
now this is all my personal opinion for the most part and i've played everywhere i've talked about at least a dozen times so its based on experience there not just what i hear and assume. if some things have significantly changed please correct me because whatever team i'm playing for they all tend to hold team practices at raza so i'm down there every weekend. if u do want to get into speedball and really want to get better and can get down there i'd recommend going to raza on a regular basis. its the kind of environment that forces you to get better and learn. raza is $25 w/ air, they offer 3 turf fields, 2 nppl and 1 psp/xball. there's lots of shade, fields always clean, bunkers always filled and wiped off, its just a GREAT place. i've fallen in love with it.
so thats my $0.02, if it helps great if not oh well, i tried. good luck finding something you like
