I'm being dragged farther away from pump...
I've been playing pump (with a phantom) since January. For the most part, I liked it. Now, I feel as if the challenge is just not fun anymore. I don't want to go back to semi either, because I'll just be another guy with a gun that fires each time you pull the trigger.
But then I can't go to semi because paint prices will kill me. Also, I seem to have more fun playing when I don't have to pump my phantom.
So yeah, I'm stuck with some pretty bad choices:
-Quit playing pump, sell the phantom, and buy a semi set up, and not afford to play much, but have a blast
-Play often, with an awesome pump gun, but not have as much fun
-Quit
How can I remedy this? I don't want to leave my pump community but I don't want the challenge anymore. This is hard stuff.
Help appreciated.

Buy a mid/low-end electro, then everynow and then play a few rounds with the electro, then play a few rounds with the pump.
When playing with the electro, just play on semi with one finger so you dont use as much paint.
Its pretty much the exact opposite for me, I want to get into playing pump because the prices for paint are kinda high and pump takes more skill.
Then if you get tired of playing pump, you can just grab your electro and play a little with that.
Very nice pump btw.

I was thinking about that, only not so much the electro part. I was shooting a Tippmann yesterday the other half of the day, and the only thing that really kept me from just trading my phantom in for one was that it's heavy as hell (and of course, my phantom's worth 4 times as much).
The only real semi I would see myself quitting pump for was a super light Ego set up, but I don't see that happening anytime soon...or at all.
If they had an uber light, uber consistent, uber efficient on co2, uber single tube (wtf), and single trigger'd, I'd buy it.

Are you the only one with a pump in your area? If so, try to get others to play pump.
What format do you play? mostly woods or speedball? If so switch it up. Hell play 5 man Xball with just pump guys. But make the halfs shorter.
Get a Splatmaster, that will make it a really challenge.

I'm going to be the one person who votes for quit.
If your not having fun you shouldn't play, and if you can't afford to have fun then you can't play.

I say quit too.
The day you no longer have fun in paintball is the day you should quit wasting your money.

When I meant bored/tired of the challenge, I meant I was sick of it.
For those who're recommending semis, what semi to get is the question.
I don't need anything fast, because I'll probably run a smaller hopper on it.

A nice X-Valved & ULE'ed automag with the ULT trigger kit in their carbon single trigger frame is by far the nicest Mech marker I've ever shot, I even sold my blazer because it just wasn't as nice.

How much heavier is the gun alone (no tank/no hopper) than a Phantom?

What does it matter? If you don't enjoy the challenge, what should gun weight/speed/hopper amount matter if it was anything close to a pump?

No, I don't enjoy the challenge I get out of pump. I see too many openings I could have filled with a semi, and soo many more eliminations I could have easily picked off. I'm also not enjoying the fact that I'm outgunned, even though that was the purpose of taking up stock class (or modified stock class, w/e).
I'm tired of the challenge of pump, not paintball altogether.
I guess my left hand is tired or somat.
Also, when I asked how much his gun weighed in comparison to mine, I was hoping that it would be close to what my full phantom set up weighs. Not because of it being a pump, but rather, because I'm just used to ligher guns. As long as it isn't tippmann heavy, I'm good.

Well, the ULE body is really light, as well as the Carbon trigger frame. The x-valve's all aluminum, so as long as you don't have a really heavy front grip, the weight will be fairly close, that is until you put a hopper and tank on!
Edit; Or you could just play open class, I rarely feel outgunned with my S6.

if you still want that light single tube cool gun, go for a mag, if not get a cocker or something and switch it between semi and pump

i'm in the process of doing the exact same thing. pump just lost it's luster to me, and i was tired of being handicapped beyond my potential on the field. i also cant afford to feed a semi, but i bought a BM cocker, which i plan on running at slow speeds, maybe with a gravity hopper. i say get a cocker or AT sniper. that way you dont get carried away with that nifty little e-trigger but still have the firepower. and i honestly think a semi with a tank is a more manageable feel than a phantom without a stock.
all in all, i say try a semi. then, if you dont like it, just get another phantom.

Buy an autococker. You always have the feel of the pump, and firepower of a timmy (not really.) But you can switch between pump and semi reletivly easy. Make sure it has a slider though, makes me feel all fuzzy inside when I use one.

It sounds to me like you just need to get your aim better. If your going to miss with one shot, how is shooting more shots going to make you shoot more accurately? The only thing that could help at all make up for that would be to just shoot lanes for someone to run through, but that takes a lot of wasted money and it requires mental skills that are much harder to hone than physical ones.
You should play whatever you have fun doing, but I dont know if a semi is going to solve your problems.
