Those kinds of reality shows just give minor glimpses into how utterly backwards we are as a nation.

So guys, last year of high school, where should I look at colleges?

Right now: Washington College (MD), UVM (VM), and Richmond in the UK (UK).

Any recommendations?

Well of course I am going to tell you UM(University of Miami) since I love my school. But really, what kind of college do you want to go to? Private? Public? Small? Big? Money an issue? Out of state?

Somewhere up north, really don't like the south (sis goes to USouCar).

Private/Public doesn't matter.

Small - Medium would be nice.

Being from DC I pay instate at any public school and get assistance at private schools, and I'm taking out loans, but being in debt isn't a big deal for me.

I really want to travel and study History/Poli Sci/Intern. Relations, although I hear they're all more or less similar when it comes to undergrad so it's all good.

SAT - Math: 550, Reading Comp: 730, Writing: 610

SAT II US History: 620
SAT II Lit: 650

Grades - 3.4 Composite, taking AP Environmental, AP Comparative, and AP German this year.

I've already got an essay and reference letters set so it's really just clicking a button.

I'm not really looking for Ivy/Ivy-esque colleges, especially not for undergrad, too expensive, and I don't even think I could get into NYU with those kinds of grades.

I guess it's kinda silly to ask you guys to tell me what schools I should be looking for :p

I mean, besides Ivy-league, I am not too familiar with schools up in the Northern part of the country. I mean I know the obvious bigger names, but that's it. Come to FL man. It is pretty non-southern compared to like Georgia or the other typical "southern" states.

George Washington, but you probably want to get out of state.
Syracuse has some good programs as do Boston College and Boston University.
DePaul would make a good safety for you (shameless plug)
Kenyon is a good liberal arts school in Ohio

I guess it depends on what kind of college experience you want too. Do you want to go to a big school with lots of school pride or do you prefer a liberal arts school where sports aren't as big, rural, suburban or city?

If he wants to spend 200,000 on his undergrad career then sure, they offer no financial assistance whatsoever, only reason I didn't go. Although I don't know what kind of federal aid he would get and he is also at the lower end of their admissions pool, so it would be a reach.

I like me some snow though lol, and I hate crocodiles!

It would be fun to go to school in Miami though, there'd always be something to do, although I do enjoy having four seasons.

I really want to get out of DC!

It's funny you mention BC, as we're one of the largest contributors of students to their school, so it wouldn't be that difficult to get in, although I'm looking for a more low-key locale (if that makes sense).

What's DePaul's setting? It's also funny you mention Kenyon, as a friend of mine was wearing a Kenyon sweatshirt today and I had no idea what it was for.

I would like to stay under 10k students. Be in a college town/suburbanish setting, avoiding a suitcase school. Athletics aren't huge for me, I would really like some places to mountain bike, so a good local natural environment is big for me.

DePaul is in Chicago, 3,000 directly on campus and about another 9,000 off campus and another 10,000 commuters

I would check out Syracuse though they have a good poli sci/ int program

If you want to go to school in the Northeast, you must be a crunchy liberal. Have you checked out Bates, Bowdoin, or Colby yet? My ex's brother is at UVM... I wouldn't last five seconds on that campus, but if you love weed and communism, go for it!

I should've looked into them more, I've already had the opportunity to visit other schools in that area.

You caught me! It was either go into Evangelical South Carolina, where evolution is heresy and your gun is the only thing that stands between you and the hordes of crackheads, or go up to UVM, where there is little to no violence, racial equality, and great outdoors, the liberal mindset being a bonus too.

Guess I'm just too close minded for the South.

The drug scene is supposed to be rather hardcore there, and I will have to learn how to snowboard, although it's w/evs.

What about UVA, UNC, UGA, Georgia Tech, or Florida?
