well, probably even if you DID they half of ST:A would try to be knocking on your door to see this thing fire up

major props to the guy!
I'll keep you guys posted. He'll be glad so many people like it. It's costing him a fortune to put it all together. Almost $30,000 into the engine, $10,000 into the transmission, another $10,000 in suspension, wheels, tires, ect. He's into it for over $60,000 already and it isn't even a rolling chassis yet. He wants to do it right though, if the car isn't absolutely awesome it wont really accomplish anything.

Right now he wants to at least get it together and drivable by the beginning of spring and have it completely finished by summer. My response, though, is always, "summer of what year?"

From the looks of it, that won't be happening.

You have to think of it from a business standpoint though. This business is pretty much all word-of-mouth. The only way to get your name out there is to do good work. If the car is good it can get into magazines, win at shows, go to SEMA, ect. If he puts $100,000 into the car he might make back $200,000+ thanks to all the advertising it will bring. Then it's worth it.

If it happens he'll rebuild it. Like RCK said though, it shouldn't happen. He might shred transmissions, the LSD, or other components, but the engine should be pretty bullet proof (which is why he put the most money into that, to make sure it's solid). He's an excellent tuner, so I know he'll keep it at a safe level.

The difference is this car is being made to go fast both in a straight line, and turning.

Honestly though, Rob owns a Porsche, a Hummer H2, an Impala SS, and the 240sx, so he isn't biased. He'll work on anything, he just chose this as his side project. Mostly because he thought it would be cool to make ~1000hp with a 2.7L engine in a sub-3000lb car (that and he already had the engine block and car).

Put it in a Caterham so you can have a power:weight ratio of 1:1. That will get his name out there, even if it won't hook up.

Makes me not want to build a 240 out of shame. Amazing work, takes true talent to build something like that. Seems like it should sit in a Nissan office building, not even a car.
