Problem with..well, not really sure, graphics/video card related, maybe?

Against my better judgement, I'm making a thread in here, because you guys are pretty much as ruthless as ST:A/ST: P, but I'm in a bit of a quandary here.

So here's what happens. After my computer has been on for anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 days, doesn't matter, if I go to play certain games (for example, vice city) everything is accelerated. Like...really, really fast. It's like the entire game is in fast-forward. Only happens on certain games, and if I restart the computer, it won't do it until I close the game and open it again.

I've tried changing drivers 4 or 5 times now, so I'd have to guess that's not it, I know it's not an overheating issue, and I'm damn sure it's not a hardware problem, especially not with vice city.

Current setup is Athlon FX5000 black edition @ 3.1 GHz
4gb PC6400 RAM
3x7200 250 GB storage drives
1x 10k 40GB OS drive
9800GT 512MB

My next guess is maybe a conflict between some games controlling the 3d acceleration and for some reason the hardware is trying to control it as well, but I'm not sure that really makes sense, and I've always set my drivers to be application controlled.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is it maybe a RAM issue? Though, if it was a RAM issue, it would make more sense for the games to lag horribly until a restart.

Launch the game, alt tab, go to task manager, go to the processes tab, right click the game process and set affinity to a single core. If that doesn't work, try forcing vsync either through the game options, or in your nvidia control panel.

I remember the first time I tried to make grilled cheese. I kept putting slices of cheese on the grill and then toasting the bread, but by the time the bread was toasted, my cheese had disappeared.

It was crazy.
