Keep my ion? Or go for the nerve
Hey guys,
I recently have been looking at nerves, many people saying that its a great gun, shoots great, and is easy to take care of. Im thinking about doing something and i dont want to make a mistake. I have man ion, and i was wondering which is better, i know i cant make a vs. thread but im just going crazy on if i should trade my ion for a nerve. Let me know on why people say its so good, and does it really shoot faster than an ion?
Thanks guys

Stockwise, it's capped at 24bps where the ion is 17bps. Nerve are very easy to maintain. Just take the HPR and LPR and clean and lube every 5 cases and clean and lube ram every 10 cases. But it's so easy I do it every 4 cases for everything in less then 20 minutes.
The Nerve doesn't need any upgrades at all except for the ASA and a Freak Insert kit but thats about it. Out of the box, the Nerve can shoot around 1400 out of a 68/4500.

You can make an ion into a very very very nice gat. However, to successfully do this, you will have to dump alot of money into it. The nerve, however, is ready to go out of the box.

just keep your Ion. they are crazy fun to upgrade, and if upgraded will shoot as good or better than nerve [depending on what kind of guns you like.] nerve is poppit, ion is spool. Nerve resale is awful, so if you plan on getting a nerve, be prepared to keep it forever, [or basically GIVE it away]

sell your ion for 100$, save up for a shocker, and use that. The resale is much better and will probably suit you better in the long run. However, if you MUST have a never( I wouldn't blame you!), the Nerve OT is a super awesome cool place to chill.

I like the Shocker but theres just too many o-rings to worry about. With the Nerve, theres only a few o-rings in the bolt/ram assembly.

I have both. I mostly run semi, even ramping I see no need to go more than 15 BPS. If you need more than that work on your playing. I like both guns the same, Ion has a feedneck, trigger, asa and grips. The Nerve has a asa. I have a J&J barrel kit I switch with what ever gun I'm using. I have about $250 in each gun. I feel the Nerve is more robust. Once you get 4000 shots tru it it is remarkably consistant, but my Ion was off the bat.
I use the Nerve a lot more because it is so dependable, and everyone has a Ion. The wow factor is pretty cool. It seems like I'm always getting sent to the light side "because they need your fire power." The Ion shoots just as fast and straight but people think because it is a high end gun there is something magical about it. Little do they know I have the same $$$ in both of them.
If you like your Ion the Nerve isn't going to give you anything more. Neither will an Ego. See if you can play with one a game and if it fits your style.

IMHO-
Nerve > SFT Shocker
Nerve < NXT Shocker [Break beam eyes, comes with bolt kit, uses the Impulse/Ion/Nerve threading...etc...]
Nerve > ANY ION
Nerve > ANY Epiphany
Nerve > ANY SP8
Nerve > ANY Impulse

id say get the nerve...
the ion is much lower end even when upgraded...
nerve has much more respect...
a nerve is much better than almost ANY shocker honestly...besides the lack of breakbeam eyes the nerve outclasses the shocker (and u can even put breakbeams in a nerve with small modification)...
Iv had an up'd Ion (very up'd) and friends nerve shot so much better...my ion did good but the nerve was in a different league...its much more effiecient...much more consistent.......if smartparts had endorsed the nerve like they did the shocker, shockers would be obselete and there would be an 08 nerve on the way....it outclass'd the shocker in everyway...(im not a hater of the shocker....just in the high-end world...they'r at the bottom for sure)...
id take a shocker over an up'd ion (thx to experience) because for the dollar its a much better deal....but nerves can be aquired for NIL and that value is insanely better than a shocker (or almost any marker for that matter)..
do yourself a favor and get the nerve....especially if u said u could trade your ion for it...

Tampa---I agree with your post, except when you say that the nerve has more respect. The nerve has no respect at all. Trust me. The ion and nerve have about the same respect at fields and in tournaments. People that criticize you for your ion will criticize you for owning a nerve. Trust me.

A few refs at a field I go to ask me about the Nerve all the time. But they don't care too much for the Ions. They shot the Nerve and they were pretty amazed by it.

Just randomly pull this thread back up?
It looks like you made your chart on guns by price alone. From every source I've talked to, people really seem to like SFTs more than NXTs.

I especially love the people who criticize the Nerve just becAUSE IT'S not the flavor of the month... especially as they are getting mowed down. Just think how much paint you could buy if we were happy with the Nerve. Lot's of playin time. Ha Ha Ha
