Does anybody have experience working at Staples?

I'm applying for a job there and I was just wondering if Staples has a good working environment.

Or has anyone worked somewhere that's similar to Staples?
Office Max/Depot, perhaps?

Thanks for your input.

I worked at staples for 5 months and it drove me insane. I HATED it there. They drill you on selling protection plans and hassle you about it if you don't. You have to know about each and every printer otherwise the customers will ***** at you about not knowing the products (on everything else too just especially printers). My manager was a real dick too (2/3 of them that is). Note I also worked 5am shift so it may be different for you.

Its a job...

When you find one that doesn't suck, let me know>

Granted I don't hate my job at all, but it is very hard and mentally demanding, when I leave I can't even think. Now working at staples probably won't be as demanding, maybe more boring and tedious.

Every job has its pro's and con's, find one that you can stand doing and you will be fine.

Of course they would, why wouldn't this new Staples will have the same management ladder that every other Staples has?

There might be some managers new to the company, but the store manager and probably some of the department managers (or whatever Staples calls them) will be transferred from existing stores to help the new one get going.

iv been working there for a year know, it really depends on what department you work in. Business machines (computers,printers,etc....) Office supplies (notebooks, pens, etc..) and copy center (the womans job). I work in business machines and like someone said earlier they do hassle you about protection plans, but there not hard to sell. but for the pay you get, its not worth the work i do. Id rather get payed a dollar less n do less work. not sayen im lazy, but who wants to do more work than they have to. So pretty much i hate working there haha but the people i work with are really cool and chill.

I'm a manager of BM's. It's really not bad if you like retail. My GM could give two ****s about plans as long as you get stuff done. They do pay you pretty well after a while. A few people are up to 16/hr after only a few years.

You REALLY have to like retail. There is ALOT of **** to put on shelves.

There are 5 open 'jobs' I can apply for:

Copy Center Associate
Front End Associate
PC Technician
Product Specialist
Store Associate

Which would you recommend I apply for?
I read the job details for all of them and they all seem bearable.

Thanks.

I worked at Staples for a year and a half....it's pretty gay. I worked in computers most of the time, but sometimes I'd rock it in aisles and just chill. No one can see you, so I'd just play "hide from the mod."

I worked at staples for about 8 months. I treated it as any minimum wage job. I knew it wasn't going to be exciting going in. If you work with cool people it definitly helps. We would end up chilln in the warehouse and breaking merch and taking candy.

In conclusion yea it sucked but it put money in my pocket.

I worked at officemax for a year and a half. It wasn't that bad, but when I went over to staples for better pay/closer to home I hated it. I was the only PC Tech/BM sells. I didn't mind doing pc jobs because I liked doing them, but we didn't get enough customers so I only did about 1 job a week. Most of them were easy pc clean ups.

Cons:
-They pressure you to sell sell sell
-No commision at staples, the bonus $ is a joke
-Less employees = more work for you to do
-You have to know everything about everything or you get *****ed at

Pros:
-It can be way chill if you have cool managers (I did at officemax)
-It is always slow, no one shops there
-pay was decent, more than minimum wage

Its up to you, I love the new job I have and will never go back to retail.
