The longest you have... I think it would take like a 2000 mm lens to fill the frame completely with the moon.

I'm going to be shooting with my 380 mm lens and then doing a 100% crop.

Meh, just stack like 8 2X teleconverters onto a 10mm lens, and you'll get the same effect.

...I think you'll be able to get a decent picture with that 200.
I, however, have a grand total of 54mm to work with.

You could probably rent a 400 f/5.6L and a 2X converter for $30 or so...

As far as exposing the moon goes, use the "moony 11" rule.

Bump it down to 5.6 or so and you'll be shooting at 1/400 second...

You dont even necessarily need a tripod to shoo pics of the moon.

You need to shoot at about 1/250 to freeze it the best.

Then just adjust the Aperture and ISO accordingly.

Luckily for me Ill be up and working at 2am this morning.. Infact, ill have just woken up.

Got love the Midnight to 8am shift...

Oh and ill be shooting with my 80-400.. but Ill shoot with the 70-200 just incase the 400mm is too soft.

Olympus Kit Lens. 14-54mm F3.5-5.6

I'm one cheap mother ****er. I'm eventually going to buy a 50mm F2.0 and then a telephoto. It's just a matter of money, and I have more important things to spend it on right now.

Why not use the 600mm and a TC?

We dont have TC's

and the 600mm is like a ****ing cannon (not Canon)

and we dont have a good enough tripod to hold it still.. and it might be tough to shoot at 1/1250 to keep from shaking.

What happened to the big budget?

Do you guys actually use the 600mm?

We have no use for TC's If we want a focal length we will just buy it.

and we rarely use 600mm. Ive used it once and I absolutely hate it.

If I want a long focal length I just shoot the 80-400..

you try carrying around a 30 Lb lens for 2 hours.. it sucks...

Should've gotten a 500mm and a (something)-300mm instead of the 80-400

Or do you guys already have a 500mm and a (something)-300mm?

Oh, and with the budget, I was talking about the tripod. I wouldn't but TC's if I didn't have to either.

we have a 4,5 and 600mm lens.

we have a 70-300 as well. but you know how bad those suck.

the 400 isnt bad, but Most of the time we shoot planes they get closer and furth away.. so the zoom of the 80-400 helps. and my supervisor is a retard when it comes to photogrpahy (she thinks the d40 is a good camera)

Which is why she wont buy us a nice 300mm prime cuz she says we already have the focal length in the 70-300mm lens.

And we actually just bought 3 Manfrottos but they arent here yet.. lots of red tape BS with the whole goverment funds thing.
