Thumbs up Mini reg mod help, WITH PICS!!!!

It seems a lot of people are confused about the mini reg mod and how to remove the mini reg/one piece fore grip, so I made a tutorial with pics to help them. The part about removing the mini reg spool and fore grip will help users with the 05 Speed-A1, and the mini reg mod will work on the 03/04 Speed-A1. This mod is fairly quick and easy to do. It took me about 20 minuets to do, including taking the pics.

We start off with my sexy, one of a kind, Speed next to the tools you will need:
c-clip pliers, 2,3, and 4mm allen wrenches, m3 threaded screw, a pair of needle nose pliers, and lube if you want.

Remove the locking screw on the front of the fore grip (2mm), the velocity adjustment screw/ball (3mm), and the end cap (insert the 4mm allen wrench in the macro port and turn counter clockwise).
Locking screw:

Everything you need to remove. DO NOT LOSE THE LITTLE BALL!!!

Insert your M3 threaded screw into one of the threaded holes in the bottom of the mini reg spool and pull the mini reg out with needle nose pliers as shown.

Remove the c- clip in the top of the mini reg spool.

Tap the mini reg guts out. The biggest brass thing is the regulator piston with the shims on it. The smaller piece is the reg seat, and the large black thing is the mini reg spool. The shims should look like this when you pull the internals out: )()()(
The guts should look like this:

Remove one of the cupped washers, or you can also flip the top shim over. When you are done it should look like this:
This side against piston----> ()()( <----This side against the bottom of the mini reg.

Alternative way to stack them (flip top washer over):
This side against piston----> (()()( <----This side against bottom of mini reg.

If you still can't get to the velocity you want, try removing another shim (or flipping the one under the already flipped top shim).

At this point you have successfully done the mini reg mod. You can reassemble it in reverse order, or if you want to remove the mini reg shell, continue on.

To remove the fore grip you need to remove the 4mm screw on the inside, and the 3mm screw on the outside.

When you remove the screws it should come right off. Do not loose the oring at the top of the shell or the LPR retaining pin (sorry, no pic of the oring).

Reassemble in reverse order, and it should end up almost as sexy as this (yes, that is my knee in the pic):

Macro feature and cropping, FTW. Not bad though. Maybe we could somehow blend this with the "Can my gun run HP" thread for an all-around, all-inclusive tutorial.

I know this was posted a while ago...but how common are c-clip pliers and an M3 threaded screw? I'm assuming they can be picked up a local Hardware store? Also...are these tools absolutely necessary or can it be done ghetto fashion with other more common tools?

Necromancer.

Anyway, you can remove the C-clip with mini needle nose pliers. Circlip pliers can be purchased at any home improvement center though. M3 threaded screws can be found at some hardware stores, and probably any hobby shop.

I might just end up trading my current tank for an LP one. I'd rather not blow out the internals. But if worst comes to worst I'll do this mod. I read it's hit or miss as far as running HP on A1's without the mod anyway.

You're not going to "blow out the internals" even if you run HP. Worst case scenario is that your HPR pressure isn't reduced enough, causing your velocity to be too high. But yes, it's hit and miss on any LP mini-reg whether or not it will handle HP.

get an LP tank...or get a Pure energy tank and you can get an LP shim pack for like 20 bucks so you can change from HP to LP and vice versa.
