You need a board of some sort. If you just power up the solenoid from a switch then it'll hold the sear down and the bolt will free cycle at somewhere around 40 cycles a second. Sort of like when it burps but in this case just keeps going until you let go of the trigger.

The board converts your switch closure to a single pulse so it lets the striker go and then resets so it can catch it as it blows back. Or if you set burst modes it sends a series of timed pulses. No way you can do this without a board.

Your best bet is to just buy a used CAMD frame from someone. Otherwise it's a case of hollowing out the mechanical frame to take all the stuff, mount the microswitch and modify the trigger setup to activate the switch

No, it takes other parts as well as the transistor all working in conjuction with each other. For a simple semi only firing method you could use a 555 timer or perhaps a chain of two 555 timers to provide the proper pulse as well as the time between shots that is needed to let the next ball fall down.

The output of those timers would run the transistor that switches the solenoid. Also it's normal to use a big fat capacitor to supply the spike of energy to the solenoid that it requires. 9 volt batteries will choke if you try to suck too much from them in a flash.

All of which means you'd end up designing your own board by the time it's all finished. You know, like the one that already doesn't fit?

What about finding a new trigger frame to put a board and the solenoid into? Like modify an Ion frame to mount to the body and hold all the stuff you need to hold. That way you're only worried about mechanical stuff and can just use some regular board.
