Which rifle stock?

I've be charmed by the custom rifles that i've seen on here. What should i be looking for when choosing a stock? I'm thinking to go with a plastic style assault looking weapon.

I don't know much, but wouldn't fibreglass be really itchy to cut?

my suggestion if you really want a great stock get mk14 ebr stock. But it will run you $500+ =P

I would just find the cheapest wood stocks you can find on ebay there gonna be easy to cut and if you mess up your not out alot. Then maybe when you get it down buy something more expensive or try a plastic one. I would suggest getting a hold of Raion she did a really great one for a 98 custom she could probably give you some advice.

The 10/22 ruger stocks are great for the custom rifle jobs that pop up on here. You may also want to look into using an airsoft stock. You can pick up the gun and gut it. Then a little milling and you are ready to go.

I've found that Ruger 10/22 stocks, Marlin/Glenfield 22 stocks, and Mauser stocks work best because they are wide enough to fit a paintball gun well and they usualy have a large section cut out already so less cutting is necessary. Also, stick with wood stocks. They are a lot cheaper and easier to work with.

If you've got a bandsaw, some quality handtools (planes, chisels, files/rasps, etc), and patience, you should try making your own stock. I was going to make a laminated stock in woodshop, using tools from my house, but the teacher wouldn't let me (probably some p.c. crap). You could build it to your own specs too, like make a thumbhole stock or something.

Always buy the most expensive parts for special projects. That way, it'll not only be worth more bragging, you'll get the best quality and be able to demand a higher price when you realize you have to sell it to feed the kids.
