Poppit

Spool.
I figure that a picture's worth a thousand words, so there's a two thousand word essay on the difference between poppit and spool valved markers.

Call me stupid, but I'm not much of a hands on learner. I can't make head or tail of those pictures. Someone mind giving me a short run down? Or directing me to where I can find it?

i dont really know alot about these things but the main difference is that the poppit uses a spring to cock the bolt back and the spool uses air pressure

no there are different types of poppits FASOR (foward air spring operated return) then there is foward air air operated return. but i think the difference is that in poppit the ram hits a valve that releases air into a hole in the bottom of the bolt which shoots the ball. Spool valves are different, but im not completely sure how so yea...

The ram doesn't hit the valve, the hammer does. (unless your talking of an Ego or a Timmy which basically combine the hammer and ram) Also poppets are valves that basically "pop" open when they are hit with the hammer. If the hammer and bolt are connected it usually means the marker is open bolt where as if they aren't connected it's usually a closed bolt marker. Spool valves are like a giant bolt that has seals in it to control the air, Spool valves often require MUCH more maintenance than a poppet. Spool valves don't have a hammer to open a valve. Spool valves are also quieter than poppets and also have less kick.

Read up on it here -> http://www.zdspb.com/tech/misc/markers_index.html

Those 2 types use the exact same type of poppet-valve.

All pneumatic paintball guns are grouped into 2 catagories: Poppet or Spool-based.

The difference is poppets are an axial valve, and spools are linear valves. The advantage of a poppet valve is it uses pressure itself to seal the valve. Spools rely instead of gaskets for proper seal.

For poppets, there is really just 2 types: Mechanical open, and pressure assisted open (like with the mQ, Mini, and VS3)
