open bolt guns are like timmys and egos, where you see the bolt coming out the back every shot

A closed bolt gun is like an autococker. Evertime the gun cycles the bolt is already closed, then opens, then closes to shoot. Then repeats for each trigger pull (asuming its on semi)

An open bolt on pretty much all guns nowadays. The bolt is open, the bolt goes forward to shoot, then returns back. Then repeats for each trigger pull ( Still assuming its on semi)

Pretty sure thats how it goes.

Yeah, that is pretty much it.

To sum it up simpler.

Open bolt : The bolt is at rest at an open position. This means that the ball chamber is empty, free to let a ball drop in. When fired, the bolt will move forward, pushing the ball past the detents, and into the barrel breach, very soon after, whatever valve operation the marker has will release air, blasting the paintball out of the barrel. The bolt then moves backwards, chambering another ball, waiting to be shot again.
That is one cycle.

Some known markers that are open bolt:
DM's PM's, Minions, Marqs, Closer
Shockers
Angels
Ego's
Mini's
Cyborgs
Spyders
Tippys
Timmys

Closed bolt : The bolt is at rest at a closed position. This means, that when you aren't firing your marker, the bolt is already blocking the ball chamber. When fired, the whatever valve operation the marker has will release air, blast ing the paintball out. The bolt will then move back, chambering a ball, then move forward, pushing the ball pass the detents into the barrel breach. It will now wait for a new trigger pull.
That is one cycle.

Some known markers that are closed bolt :
Autocockers
Vikings
Omens

__________________________________________________ _________________________________

"Open" bolt : You can see the bolt. (egos are "open" bolt type markers)
Enclosed bolt : You can't see the bolt (angels, trixes, shockers are all enclosed bolt type markers)

open bolt-pull the trigger bolt moves forward and air vents pushign the ball into the barrel and firing in one motion

Closed bolt- pull the trigger bolt is already forward air vents bolt moves back to open the breach accepting another ball then the bolt moves forward to seal the breach again

Mr. Bud Orr liked to use Closed Bolt designs as a trademark for "Autococker un-rivaled accuracy". It was said the design of a closed bolt, led to less turbulance during a shot cycle, because the paintball is already in the firing position.

They have no difference. Especially when shooting at rates faster then 10 bps. They cycles blend together, making everything an open bolt.

pretty much, for the most part.
if you can see the bolt from outside the marker, its open bolt
if you cant, its closed bolt

I bet if you look hard enough you can see through the crappy plastic shell on it :no dodgy:

here you go then:
Open bolt means the ball is pushed into the breech by the bolt, the bolt moves BACK and then fires
Closed bolt means the ball is pushed into the breech by the bolt and then fired while the bolt is in the forward position.
