Death

OK so i've been doing alot of thinking lately. first off i'd like to make the point that i do not practice any religion but i do believe in most teachings from the bible, torah, and even the quran. but even after learning so much about these holy books nothing can really be proven. my question to all of you in ST:R is what do you feel about death. Do you believe in life after death, heaven and hell, or maybe a state of nirvana?

thanks alot
me

My belief is that when I die, the electrical signals causing my mind to function will disappear like a light when you flip the switch. I will be immortalized through the collective memories of humanity, at least until I am forgotten. My matter will be broken down and recycled into something else in the universe. In that aspect I may be reincarnated as a tree or a slug or maybe just dirt.

I believe in the Christian interpretation of Heaven and Hell. My only beef with it is that I believe that those who live a good life, help others, and are kind, deserve entrance into Heaven.

I believe that with death comes life, with judgement comes reward or punishment, and our actions make our consquences

They say, 'There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and nothing but Time destroys us.' Of that they have no knowledge; they merely conjecture. And when our revelations are recited to them, their only argument is that they say, 'Bring us our fathers, if you speak truly.' ( Quran 45:24-25)

You can't make the dead hear; and you cannot make the deaf hear the call when they turn away. And you cannot guide the blind out of their wandering astray. The only ones you can get to hear are those who believe in Our signs and who acquiesce. [Qur'an 30: 52,53]

"And he has coined for us a similitude, and has forgotten the fact of his creation, saying: who will revive these bones when they have rotted away? Say: He will revive them Who produced them at first, for He is the Knower of every creation, Who has appointed for you fire from the green tree, and behold! you kindle from it. Is not He Who created the heavens and the earth, able to create the like of them? Yes, and He is indeed the Supreme Creator, the All-Knowing." ( Quran 36:78-81)

Those who disbelieve say: The Hour will never come unto us. Say: Nay, by my Lord, but it is coming unto you surely. (He is) the Knower of the Unseen. Not an atom's weight, or less than that or greater, escapes Him in the heavens or in the earth, but it is in a clear Record. That He may reward those who believe and do good words. For them is pardon and a rich provision. But those who strive against our revelations, challenging (Us), theirs will be a painful doom of wrath." ( Quran 34:3-5)

"Until, when death comes unto one of them, he says, 'My Lord send me back, that I may do right in that which I have left behind! But nay! It is but a word that he speaks; and behind them is a barrier until the day when they are raised. And when the Trumpet is blown there will be no kinship among them that day, nor will they ask of one another. Then those whose scales are heavy, they are successful. And those whose scales are light are those who lose their souls, in hell abiding, the fire burns their faces and they are glum therein." ( Quran 23:99-104)

" The death from which you flee will surely meet you, then you will be sent back to (God), the All-Knower of the unseen and the seen, and He will tell you the things that you did." ( Quran 62:8)

We granted not to any human being immortality before you, then if you die, would they live forever? Every soul shall have a taste of death; and We test you by evil and by good by way of trial. To Us you will be returned." ( Quran 21:34-35)

Believer, I'm not trying to be rude, but why are you always providing Qur'ans quote? It does not prove your statement to be true or anything.

I could do the same thing with the bible for example.

Well, I guess it is good that he knows what he believes and can show it through quoting from the Qur'an. Overall, he seems to be a very pleasant poster, very respectful and actually quite polite. I appreciate his posts, though I may not always agree with them

no, no, and no. Whatever happens happens. I prefer the belief in nothing than a pretension of knowledge.

I believe the last surge of energy across our neural synapses causes a bend in the 4th dimension, which in turn causes an alternate reality relative to ours. I believe in an explanation based on string theory and the idea of alternate dimensions. I believe that this alternate reality is what "heaven" is. Whatever our idea of heaven is at the time of death affects the creation and/or modification of the reality. In short, I believe in an afterlife and I believe there is a scientific explanation for it.

No. I was merely using the terms 'immortalized' and 'reincarnated' to aid understanding. If you re-read my post you'll find I'm not speaking about my 'soul' or 'spirit' but the actual atoms that make up my matter. Basically, what would happen to my corpse.

Explain. Does something cross over? What evolutionary benefit is there for that last 'surge' of synaptic energy, as you put it? More concisely, what proof do you have for there even being a 'surge'? You call it an 'afterlife', does this imply that we will have conciousness after this transition? Please elaborate.

I know a theoretical physicist that doesn't like string theory because it's too complicated. We'll see though once they start colliding **** next year.

As a Catholic, I definately don't believe he is going to hell. I think he is following God to the best of his knowledge and ability and who could ask for more than that?

Besides, I don't judge anyone's eternal destination, whether they be Muslim, Catholic, atheist, whatever. It is not my place, it is God's.

Good question. I don't know the answer. But I do believe there will be a scientific explanation for an "afterlife" in the future.
