So the word "Awesome"

Ok so my aunt and uncle are really religious Christians (They are really religious because they go to church almost 2 times a week, they pray a lot, and they follow everything by the bible). I am also Christian but not as religious as them. I say "Awesome" a lot. They always tell me not to say "Awesome", they only tell me to use the word awesome for God. I say Awesome to my parents, they don't really mind me saying that. So I am wondering do you say awesome at awesome stuff and you are Christian?

Let's break down the etymology shall we?

Awesome. Awe some. As in, there is some awe here. If anything, God should be awful.

A word? We've tried to hi-jack a word? Is that even possible...?

Anyways, awesome is just fine to say. One word describes God - that word is "God". Don't go around saying "hey yea dude, that's pretty God right there" and you'll be fine.

Ask them if you can refer to God as "f***ing awesome" and all lesser objects not worthy of such praise as just plain "awesome".

Yah...I'm gunna say the my opinion is that awesome is just fine to say...I'm thinking while yes, your aunt and uncle are really religious, they seem maybe a little too old fashioned and up tight about it.

no, what im saying is its a word that has really no religious meaning, but aparantly some christians are trying to make it one. my point in the "yet another" was that some christians make things like Halloween a christian holliday by saying its celebrating satan, when in fact it is a pegan holliday celebrating the seasons (or something).
(btw i realize i probably misspelled half of that paragraph)

—Usage note Although some object to any use of awful or awfully in any sense not connected with a feeling of awe, both have been used in other senses for several centuries. Awful and awfully as adverbial intensifiers—awful(ly)hot; awful(ly)cold—appear in the early 19th century, following much the same pattern as horribly anddreadfully. As an adverb awful is less formal in tone than awfully. In the sense “inspiring awe or fear” awesome has largely replaced awful.

so maybe they're awfully oldschool?

The verb is first attested 1303. Awestruck is from 1634. Awesome first recorded 1598; colloquial sense of "excellent" is from 1980.
The use of "awesome" to describe something as excellent or great is a modern, colloquial term of the word. They need to study the English language a bit better and keep up with its evolution. The current sense of the word "awe" is what comes from biblical sources. "Awesome" has nothing to do with the Bible.

You should not be saying awesome at all unless you're singing songs about how awesome your God is.

10% huh? I could do this job.

The solution is to tell your aunt/uncle to mind their own bissness when it comes to YOUR right to say as you please, and that if they don't like it, then you can stop visiting and/or communicating with them in any way. Remind them that while you do believe in god, this is still America and you are still due your 1st amendment rights.
