Got a quick Q for you fellas. I picked up a NDZ ram assembly and I'm wanting to trade out the hammer with a rathole. I've read about boiling your ram for easier removal of the hammer, but what's the best way to get the back cap off without stripping out the hex slot?
I've been working on it but it just doesn't want to give, and if I put on any more pressure it's gonna strip, I just know it. Should I try boilng it as well? Got plenty of spare orings BTW, so that's not a problem. Thanks in advance.

i dont know much about rust and stuff but i dropped my assembly in a pot of water by mistake when changing the hammer and it was ok so it might be ok to boil it but what if the rubber gets hot and stuck on it?
get an old leather belt and wrap it around the ram housing and then put it in a vice (this is just so you don't scratch it) then carefully try and remove the back cap this might work
but if you want to boil it then try this
i really dont think you should boil the whole assembly just put on oven mits and hold on to the ram housing while you stick the back cap in and keep it there for about 2 min then wrap a belt around it and put it in a vice and try and take it off
once the back cap is off you can boil the hammer to loosen up the loctite then wrap a belt around that and put it in the vice and unscrew the ram from the hammer
when putting your new hammer on use green i think loctite or mabey blue i dont remeber and just screw it on with hand pressure
i hope this made sense

Yeah, that made sense. Not too worried about rust since the entire assembly minus the hammer and ramshaft is Aluminum. The only thing I'm worried about is as you said, if the rubber gets hot and stuck on it. I've never dealt with a melted oring before, so that would be a new one to me.
I'll try sticking the back cap in some hot water for a couple minutes and see what happens, then do the boiling water/leather belt/vice trick for the hammer.
Blue loctite is the only way to go, Green shouldn't be used for anything that you may want to remove later.

I don't think there is green, sorry to burst ya bubble. It's only red and blue. The back cap of mine came off easily. I used a wrench and an allen key.

Nice! You should open an Imp Museum
No bubble bursting needed Snowball, haha. Green Loctite #290 is available almost anywhere. It's just not the best bet for paintball markers. I wish that my ram cap would come off easily like yours did, it's just being stubborn I guess

Are you holding it with your hand? Or are you putting a wrench on the end?

No, I'm using a strap wrench to hold the ram, and an 1/8" allen key. I just got home from a funeral so I haven't had a chance to try the hot water method yet. Speaking of "holding it with your hand", that made me think of this dude that can bend an adjustable wrench with his own hands. Sorry if that's a little OT, just came to mind though...I think I saw him on a show on Discovery or TLC.

Yeah, I think the fella I bought it from had it re-annoed so he may have just taken the jewels off and never replaced them. But did the Eclipse Imps come with an LPR standard?

Haha, I know how you feel. I have a small chunk of change I can spend each month, and once it's gone I'll see all kinds of cool guns and parts come up for grabs. After my Imp is done at Elias, I was planning on picking up an old school cocker pump and an automag.
A team owned Purple Strange? That sounds like a nice find if you can pick it up. It seems that you're one who appreciates the history behind a marker. A true collector.
