Would you buy this?

I'm thinking about producing a machine to mechanically dress the seams of paintballs. I already know how it would be built and have a working concept, but am not sure whether there would be enough demand for it. Looking at a $100 price point. Would you buy it? It WILL demonstrably improve the performance of low and mid grade paint.

Here's an example:
(Marker was clamped in a gun-vice.)

Low end paint 20 shot spread at 80':

Same paint with the seams dressed- 20 shot spread at 80':

Marballizer (the original, not the Canadian version)- 20 shot spread at 80':

You can see that the $30/case paint now performs on par with the Marbs. Thinking about maybe crowd-funding this...

I would add how long it takes to process balls and the size of the machine.

So it is a machine in which you put in crappy paint and it makes it good paint?

He'll yeah I would buy it. The time it takes to work however would have to be bearable. If it can go through a case of paint and fix it up in say 15-30 minutes, I would definitely get it. If it takes hours however, the time it would take to fix the paint honestly wouldn't be worth the $20 saved however

I would be interested but time to dress is a factor for me as well.

Let us know what you think.

It should be able to process a bag in a few minutes. Still working out how aggressive it can be without causing broken paint inside the device. The paint used above was DXS Triumph, the same results could be expected with ANY paintballs that exhibit ANY amount of flashing on the seam. If you can feel flashing when you rub your finger across the seam, this device will tighten the shot spread of that paint.
Even some high-end paintballs could be improved...I recently bought a case of Inka Gold ($70) that had very poor seams and, of course, flew like frisbees.

Ok so that's bearable.

Will it be able to handle brittle paint? Like what if I put some evil inside? (Not that evil needs it but hypothetical)

Also, will it be able to do as good on a paint that's boring at say a .679 as a paint that's .689?

Also, just a tip in case this all works out, try to make it look as simple as possible. What I mean by that is no crazy designs/colors. The main reason is because the majority of people who will by this are my guess either budget ballers or people who have to use field paint. That being said, when brought to the field, the less eye catching something is, the less likely it is for someone to think "Hey that's expensive! Let me go steal it!".

$100 price point, I'd be sold. This is an excellent idea, and I'm very impressed Good luck and I hope to see a real prototype soon

I'd like to see some proof. For all we know, you purposely made the paint spread bad

Sorry, this thread is simply to gauge interest. I have a working concept, but haven't gone as far as building a prototype yet. I'd really hate to have someone else steal my thunder.

Those pics are from a couple of years ago, they are from a thread I had on Punkworks about paintball performance (I'm rntlee there). I dressed those seams by hand. The pics were on my photobucket and were just handy to use as a demonstartion of what is possible. It's pretty simple to hand-dress some paintballs yourself, if you want to see the effect. Just use a sharp knife and scrape (don't slice!) along the balls seam until it's flush with the shell. Doing the same mechanically is a little more difficult tho.

At a $100 price point you would be crazy not to buy this machine (or whatever it is) so ya I'm down. put out a prototype and I'll be sold because in all reality paying $70 for a case of paint blows.

Truth. Definate cred points added.

I probably wouldn't buy one because I usually just show up and buy field paint, but its a solid concept for a lot of players.

It's not going to make it more brittle, it's just going to make it more round. A normal case of GI 2 star is perfectly round for most of the balls but it's not tourney paint because it's thick as hell.

Trudging old threads, while looking for something else, but did this ever come about? Especially if it has a 500 rd hopper/feeder, and can be powered by the 12v on a car, it would be perfect. You could start it, gear up (or have a vape/smoke), and by the time you're done, you've got 2 pods and a hopper's worth of paint ready to go.
