Question about mask

Ive got a jt flex 8 that i havent played with at an event and i want to know if it is legal. I cut the top part of the mask that is right above the frame and lense off ( the part that most people cut off) and i was wondering if its ok to use.

yeah man you can use it.they are only really looking for what are considered safety hazards to the players.since most masks dont have it ayways..they dont penalize for it..

No its not legal.

4.12. Players must wear full-face protection as it comes from the manufacturer in its ORIGINAL FORM.

If you have modified your mask it is not legal uner the rules and plenty of people have been pulled this year at events for modified masks. The sad thing is, while cutting a little strip off of the top of the ear peices is not allowed, you can buy the mini ear peices made by JT that now come stock on some masks. They are actually smaller and therefore less safe then most of the "modified" ear peices but legal since they are in their original form.

I just installed a set of the mini ear peices on my mask so it will be legal at RiverJam. They care considerably smaller then my cut ear pieces.

I've worn a Flex8 with the top piece cut off at 2 XBall events and not had a problem. I know PLENTY of people who have done it and none of them have had a problem. I suppose if they really decided to enforce that rule to the letter, it could be deemed an illegal mask, but I think probably 90% of the Flex8s out there are cut like that.

Ah... I guess it just depends on how closely the refs on your field pay attention to your mask. I know 3 people who have been pulled for cutting their soft ears. When they complained about it they were told absolutely no modifications are allowed to masks.

No modifications are allowed, unless it is adding protection. That doesn't mean the refs are going to catch it. If you just have a little strip cut off then you can wear, and you are probably not going to get pulled. But if someone does catch it, then you will be pulled.

I believe this falls into a grey area. The were abundantly clear that NO alter mask were allowed for safety reasons. But, since your mask wasn't altered in a way to make it less safe, they might give you th thumbs up. Just pack a spare and ask Larry before you play to be sure.

Remember kids, "It's better to be safe than sorry!"

our guys were told that they didn't want to make 1000 judgment calls on what alterations were safe and which ones were not... so they decided to allow Absolutely no modificaitons to masks.

Gamble in Vegas, not in a CFOA Tournament. Imagine that cry-baby post you'll have after the tourny if you do get penalized! It's completely possible to not get busted, but it's like driving without a seatbelt... it's only illegal if you get caught; which, at that point, the ref/police should penalize you

Yes, technically, the mask has been altered.

So it's just a matter of luck whether the refs want to allow you to play with it or not.

My opinion? You should have kept that part, so if anyone bugged you about it, you could just clip it back on.

Take 2 masks. Go up to the ref with your flex 8, (a little late i know) and ask him if you'll get pulled for it.
