My Pride and Joy: 1972 240Z

Edit: New Pictures of the engine bay. Weber carbs + headers = sexytime!
Here she is in her present condition:

And a shot of the left side:

Right side (not as interesting, I know):

From the top looking down, left side:

And lastly, the interior (Not as clean as it has been, but not as dirty either):

Well the spring cleaning bug caught me, luckily for a good cause...

Specs
1972 240Z with 86,580 miles
Triple Weber Side Drafts with K&N Filters
3 into 2 headers (inline six)
Targa Exhaust
Camshaft and Lifters
Tokico Springs (lowers car >1"
Rear Sway Bar
Front Skirt (Urethane Baby!)
And of course the Whale Tail

This is my first car, took me 3 years but I finally bought one!

I bought this car last year in late September/Early October with 83,550 miles for an amazing price of $3,250.00!!!. It came with all of the original parts plus the huge list of performance everything. So far I've spent less than $200.00 in getting it tuned up and looking nice. I have loved early Z's since I first laid eyes on them (12 years old looking in Want Ad Digests) so when this came in the local paper in Steamboat Springs listed as "1972 240Z, looks clean, drives nice, make offer" I had to check it out. As it turns out it was a lot more than a clean, nice driver...So, now that I've brought up the topic, who else here is interested in Z cars (both Datsun and Nissan)?

Ha yeah probably somewhere around $10k+. Basically stole it from the guy, I felt kind of bad because he didn't know much about the car. His friend had built it and unexpectedly died, leaving the title with the person who I bought the car off of. I'm assuming he blue-booked it and left it at that. All mods are performance-based or oriented; THERE WILL BE NO MODS TO CHANGE THE LOOK, SOUND, ETC! I have a radio that never worked so I never felt like i needed to replace it. And besides, who needs a radio when you can listen to the car?!

Thanks for the compliments, and yes the original is so so so much better than any Z that came out since the end of the 280...

Very nice looking car. I have to agree with 24/7. The whale tail may be a bit much. Must not have driven it much when there was snow on the ground cause those cars are prone to rust.

The inline 6 will last forever in that thing, but it (the engine) is heavy as hell.

I was not a fan of the whale tail when I first bought it too, but over time it has grown on me and now I don't mind it much at all. I was just going for a deck lid spoiler before but the whale tail will work for now. If I happen to buy another Z without much engine work then I will throw in an LS1, but until then I'm sticking with the straight 6.

Awesome car man. I'm thinking of getting rid of my SVX and finding one of these. I saw one for sale for around 3500, except it was a 280z. It has some kind of Aero kit though...maybe you should look it up. It looks reallly good and isn't obnoxious at all.

The whale tail is good for autocross which I believe it was set up for. If you can try to buy a pre-76 Z. I believe that emissions standards went up at or around 1976, hence the reason for the 260 and then 280 (240 has a 2.4 ltr, 260 had a 2.6, 280 had a 2.8). The 240s are also much more sought after which helped in my case but hurts most people who are looking for quality early production Zs. If I stay in Steamboat this summer I will be entering it in a few autocross races on an airport about 45 minutes outside of town. As I see it the car is already set up for autocross so why not race it a little?
