Actually, it's the opposite of that. The ROF setting on the board is a delay time, not the actual rate of fire. So, in order to have it at 17 bps, you need to set the ROF all the way down to 0. You need to go to single blink yellow and hold the power button until the red stops flashing.

It depends on the bolt and whether or not you have a qev.

How to set Dwell:

  2. Lower the dwell setting to the minimum (or an extremely low setting, such as 5 blinks with the stock board, or 8 milliseconds with an aftermarket board).
  3. Gradually increase dwell until the marker begins to fully cycle. When the marker has trouble cycling, the sound of the bolt firing will be muffled and sound erratic, denoting inconsistencies. When you reach the point where it fully cycles, the marker will make a loud POP for each shot you take, with minimal sound difference between the shots.
  4. Once the Ion is fully cycling, increase the dwell another 4-6 blinks (2-3 milliseconds with aftermarket board), and that will be your dwell setting.

Okay, I have an ION XE with QEV 360, L7v2 Bolt and Stock board. I have set my dwell at 18 and ROF at 0. Am I good with those numbers? The marker sound alot better than stock settings.

Ok, let's see if I understand this.

The best way for me to set my BPS, gun settings, etc. is by FIRST setting the gun to a proper dwell THEN by changing the ROF, by using a chart I found, to adjust the ROF to what a tourney or whatever field limits?

Correct?

Set it using this guide and you'll be good at those numbers.

I have an Ion with a detonator reg, LP HPA tank, firebolt, 360 QEV and stock board. I have it set to 22 ms dwell as of now and have experienced dismal gas efficiency. If anyone else here has a similar setup (particularly the firebolt and qev) could you share your experience with dwell settings? The marker will be fired almost exclusively in semi auto.

What type of "dismal efficiency" are we talking here?

When I dry fire it at 100 psi the gauge just seems to fall too quickly, I'll know for sure when I play again.

I have a question for you dwell wizards.

Since my field has a bps limit of 10.5 bps, in order to get that I obviously can't have my dwell at the optimal setting. It's upgraded internally for efficiency but the crap settings are really holding it back. What board, if any, could I purchase that would allow me to keep my dwell low and set a BPS cap?

thanks

Well you could just set the stock board to full auto and it would be limited at 10bps. But, any upgrade board will allow you to set your dwell independent from your bps.

I also believe the 3 round burst on the stock board is caped at 10bps. Not positive on that one though.

I actually talked to spug about this earlier. My DEficiency is mainly caused by having a single tail o-ring bolt. I get a lot of air dumped out of the chamber

While your dwell can be lowered a bit, no one can really tell you how much. The first post in this thread tells you how to set your dwell.

As for psi, we can't recommend a pressure setting since it's tied to the velocity - as long as the psi is under 200 & you're shooting within legal velocity limits, then it's perfect.

no one can tell you what the best settings are for your gun, especially without way more details as to what is inside. Use the information on the front page of this sticky to set your dwell (but add an extra 2 ms, because it doesn't matter with the ndz skeleton bolt) and set your pressure as per your velocity.
