I have the New Designz Skeleton Bolt and the SP 360 QEV and the stock board in my ION, what should my dwell be?

Every gun is different, to find your optimum dwell go to the first page of this thread and follow the directions.

Recharge at 0, dwell at when it fully cycles then up 5. Pressure at whatever gets you to 280 fps on a chrono.

How to set Dwell

Pressurize your Ion at whatever input pressure you wish to use. We suggest between 150-180 psi, depending on the internals. The following steps involve you dry-firing the marker (firing it without paint).

Lower the dwell setting to the minimum (or an extremely low setting, such as 5 blinks with the stock board, or 8 milliseconds with an aftermarket board).

Gradually increase dwell until the marker begins to fully cycle. When the marker has trouble cycling, the sound of the bolt firing will be muffled and sound erratic, denoting inconsistencies. When you reach the point where it fully cycles, the marker will make a loud POP for each shot you take, with minimal sound difference between the shots.

Once the Ion is fully cycling, increase the dwell another 4-6 blinks (2-3 milliseconds with aftermarket board), and that will be your dwell setting.

And when you say fully cycles up, do you meane when it is shooting as quick as you can make it?

If the dwell is too low it'll just go pfft pfft.

You only test with single shots.

When a single shot sounds normal, go up 4-6 more clicks.

I set my dwell at 55 and my rof at 33 to get 13 bps I dry fired and it sounded fine, I ran out of air though =( so I can't test anymore, if it sounded fine do you think its ok, or should I push my dwell up a couple more? I was just running off what that chart says.

Wouldn't it be more efficient to set your dwell to your optimum dwell setting (as described by the dwell setting instructions), and then use the chart to find what recharge you should set it at to get 13 bps?

I know that you will have no problems with the settings you have now, I'm just saying that I think it would be alot more efficient with a lower dwell and higher ROFD.

I bought the ion used, and it was at 17 bps. I started to count down and clicked 2-3 times without counting, so I believe it was at about 57 or 58, and at 0 recharge, and the guy said he was getting 17 bps. I want to practice with the 13 because of the new rules.

So from what you both said I will be fine with my settings now but my efficiency will be a lil lower. What is the best way to fix this? Put it at 52 dwell and find the recharge for 13 bps like that or??

Thanks for the help!

I have upgraded bolt and thats about it, I sent my virtue board back in because it broke, and ya, kila detents...So put it at 52 dwell, then find the recharge that makes it be 13 bps? There isn't an exact 13 under the 52 though. Thanks for all the help!

I'd just go through the dwell sticky and set your dwell accordingly. then go ahead and set your recharge rate to get your 13 bps.

You should be able to get a lower dwell than 52. Look at post #194 ^^^^^

Follow those directions first.

After you find your proper dwell, use that # with the chart to find out what you need to set your rof to to get 13 bps.

EDIT: Not fair hugo, yours is shorter, and I reposted the dwell instruction, because nobody sees them on page 1, unless they look there for them.

Yeah. Leave it alone for now. Print out that chart and the dwell sticky and set it at the field.

Does that chart work for all boards or just stock? (when figuring out BPS) I have a Blackheart board with my dwell at 46 and ROF at 0.

Looking again at the chart I answered my own question. 17 BPS max = stock board only.

It would be nice to find a chart like that so that I could sometimes ramp at field max ROF. I usually just play in semi-auto.
