Personal Built Computers - Reviews / Comparisons
Per jacksonblue's recommendation in THIS THREAD, I am hoping to create a knowledge-base for personal built computer combinations. With this in mind, this thread should not turn into a pissing match of people's opinions of Intel versus AMD, Nvidia versus ATI, or Microsoft versus Apple.
For the comparison we will be using these two benchmark utilities to measure Gaming and Number Crunching performance:
It is important that you fulfill all of the required elements with your post, otherwise it will not be added to the comparison chart. In the spirit of this becoming a knowledge-base, please do not falsify information as it only hurts the overall results.
Any items listed in RED, are required:
Computer Specs:- Processor (Link)
- Motherboard (Link)
- Memory (Link)
- Video Card (Link)
- CPU Cooler (Link)**
- Operating System
** If using water cooling; list the CPU block, Pump, and Radiator
Total cost of parts listed above at the time of original purchase (Minus Operating System)
<<< One Picture of the System Together >>>
Initial Impression/Review:
Benchmark Results at Stock Speeds:- 3DMark06 Test Results - X,XXX
- SiSoftware Sandra - Processor Arithmetic Results - XX,XXX
<<< Screen shot of results with CPUZ >>>
Benchmark Results at Overclocked Speeds:- 3DMark06 Test Results - X,XXX
- SiSoftware Sandra - Processor Arithmetic Results - XX,XXX

Alright guys, I have updated this thread with my information. This is a community effort to create a knowledge base; therefore, it is crucial to include all information that is required in your posts to be added to the comparison chart.
Automaggot: please list only the total price of the listed items, add your 3DMark06 score, and post a screen shot of your results (including CPUZ).
imguessingurgay: please list the total price of the listed items, add your Sandra score, post a screen shot of your results (including CPUZ), and limit to only one picture of your system.

Do me a favor and keep it to the format like I had posted mine. Makes it easier to pull the information. Also include the cost of the core componets at the time of origional purchase.

Doesn't matter... but just make sure you list which OS you ran your benchmarks on.

Computer Specs:
Purchased for ~$1850 around Summer 2006.
Initial Impression/Review:
At first, I was excited because the build went smoothly and the newly released Core 2 Duo was boggling my mind with it's performance per dollar ratio. This build was meant to be a heavy hitter (without much gaming performance, seeing as I don't game) and had to be very quiet. As time went on, I became slightly less impressed with the overall build. The hard drive cage in my Lian-Li case transferred a bunch of HDD vibration and was quite audible, which obviously upset me seeing as I wanted a quiet machine. The vibration was solved by inserting a thin wad of paper between the metal contacts on the HDD cage. Also, my Fortron Soure PSU was quite loud - it was foolish of me to buy a PSU with an 80mm fan if I wanted a quiet machine. I swapped in a fan with a slower turning rate, and it was once again a quiet computer - I'm willing to risk my PSU health, a few fan RPMs can't hurt that much.
My motherboard is overpriced, gimmicky, and has some BIOS problems. As far as I can tell, when I took a suicide overclocking run, I damaged some part of the BIOS and lost the EZ Update functionality. Now, updating my BIOS is a complicated and little documented matter, and I cannot restore the functionality that I once had. My overclocking ceiling is low, and I don't want to blame my RAM. My mobo has wifi built in, which I used a grand total of once, and it comes with a bundle of other unnecessary features which I didn't initially mind because the board had some great reviews. I have been unable to get a decent install of Linux with this board either because of the now-quirky BIOS or because it contains components that are not that Linux friendly. As such, I run the ugliest yet most feature-filled version of Windows I can find to compensate. I run 24/7 at the overclock listed above, and my CPU usage never drops below 100% due to various and ongoing tasks which need processing time.
No stock clocked benchmarks will be provided. This computer does not shut down unless absolutely necessary.
Benchmark results at overclocked speeds:
3DMark 06 Test results: 2,316
SiSoft Sandra Processor Arithmetic Results: 27,944 MIPS
