The angles make all there tricks look easy. Get closer to them, and under. Make it look like their doing something impressive. Look at your pictures...now look at how much of the picture your subject is taking up....

And a sunset...

I think it's you who people keep telling to get better angles and filling your frame more with your subject...are you listening?

Edit: What are those black things in the water?

i think his composition is fine. he could have had a tighter crop on the 2nd pic, but the first and third are great.

No sir I do not. In fact I'm horrible at it.

I guess it's just me then. I rather see more of the person doing the trick then the scenery around him.

Edit: I do like the first one quite a bit more then the others.

What does him skating or not have anything what-so-ever to do with him giving you advice on your pictures.

I dont skate but I sure as hell agree that the pictures would be more interesting with a wide angle lense from up close and down low. or more interesting angles at least.

Matt D doesnt play paintball per-say, but he sure as hell knows how to shoot it..

1. it lets me know if i should take the advice more so or less. no offence but id rather get advice from someone who knows skate photography. i know what youre thinking, "if you want a skaters opinion then go somewhere else", but i just wanted to show you guys what i was up to today (and yesterday with the sunset). critique them all you want, im not going to ignore what hes saying but i just wanted to know if he had skated before and knew much about skate photography.
2.my tokina fisheye comes in next week
3. i realise MattD is good at paintball photography but hes also a professional photographer from what i understand so he knows what hes doing.

just realise im not trying to start an e-fight here...

oldskool, i like the size of the skater in 1, but it's his position in the frame. you have him exactly in the middle. it makes it feel like he is just stuck there.

You kept a distance out of fear you'd break, but what good's a single windchime hanging quiet all alone? The music our collisions would make is the sound that turns "the road that leads us back home" into "home."

Eh, I'm just voicing my opinion. But this is more interesting and breath taking to me then yours.
*not mine*

I could understand if the jump/ramp was massive....then you could pull away and make your subject small to emphasize the size of the jump/ramp whatever it is. But doing it for 6 stairs just doesn't work for me.

I honestly think that picture sucks. For the past 6 months or so I've been hanging around with a local BMX photographer, and I've been doing some shooting of my own. I think I know skating well enough and I actually like his shots. I'm not a huge fan of #2, but I think #1 and #3 have a lot going for them. I think #1 would be a little better if he was more to the top of the frame as opposed to the center, but #2 is definitely a great shot.

No matter if you're doing BMX or skating, you always want to get a view of the ramp. It shows what they're doing so you can really picture exactly what's going on. The shot that COP posted is useless because you have no idea where he's coming from or where he's going. If you have a picture of some guy on a bike stuck in the air, it's useless. Now, while oldschool's shots aren't the best I've ever seen, I think he is heading in the right direction.

Ha! I got a nick name!

Well, I'm going to keep my opinion. You can take it if you want it. I'm new to photography and I'm not pretending to know anything, but I do know what I like.

Oh and none of those comments were suppose to be rude....I'm just an asshat by nature.
