Is prayer an illusion?

Watch the vid. If you have the attention span, watch all of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jk6IL...2Fvideo8%2Ehtm

Also, look at this site.

They ask two perfectly reasonable questions that address the fundamental flaws in belief in god. I'm not criticizing anyone for their religion, but I'm interested to see how people can justify this.

Doesn't really address any flaws in the existence of god. Maybe the real illusion is that some think god has to be benevolent.

No, it doesn't.

People will pray to God before surgery and then thank him after they are healed, but not realize that it's modern day science and medicine that is helping them.

It does show that prayer doesn't really do anything, and that the bible is essentially lying in several areas. Doesn't that seem to address a flaw to you?

The amputee site is full of fallacy and assumption.

Why does God have to regrow limbs for a prayer to be answered? Why is the author assuming that a prayer has to be answered exactly as it was requested? What if the answer to the prayer is "no"? What if the answer to the prayer differs from the answer you wanted? The author assumes that this means the prayer wasn't answered. What if God's answer to your prayer comes in the form of medical advances or technological breakthroughs?

Basically, the author's logic is "I prayed for a limb to regrow. It didn't, so God doesn't exist".

^because every other thing that is pryed for is self limiting. Every other thing that can be prayed for can be solved by at least one more option than god. There are mountains of empirical evidence about humans not being able to regrow a lost limb. If starfish and salamanders can do it; why can't we?

There have been a few studies on prayer, Dawkins sites them in The God Delusion. Prayer does absolutely nothing but make people have hope.

as ive said before

hope = pray

miracle = chance

changing the definition does not make them holy or "prove" that there is god

About the bible? Maybe, although that can be argued and I don't really care about that, but it addresses nothing about the existence of a god.

I'll say this, positive thinking works.

Prayer (falling under any aspect of reality), is an illusion as I believe all of reality to be illusory.

Prayer is what you make it, and why do people thing God has to bow down to them and answer their prayers anyway? God is very busy .

I see it this way there has to be a God, if there wasnt who would people ask to damn thing's or blame for everything that has gone wrong in their life, or ask for help when they need something.

Yes. After getting in a motorcycle accident and being thrown over 50 feet, my uncle had no pulse for 2 minutes before being revived by hospital machines.

Also, there is no proof that Jesus rose from the dead. Nice try though. You kind of owned yourself with your own ignorance.

I hope you're not serious. All god can ever give is moral support, which can also be gained by friends and family. If that's not an option, there's nothing rational thinking can't solve that god can.

I figured I'd quote this since no one else will read past "aspect".

I don't really have anything to say in response other than I appreciate the comment, and unfortunately, it won't be read by nearly anyone else.

I did not find it to be inspirational or unique, but rather matrixie in nature.

im talking about being dead in a grave for 2 months...yes god can i know it happend not sure when ask another person

science can also fail, if god wants someone to die and its there time, even if there pulse is gone for 1 second medics cannot revive them if god does not want them to continue to live
