~nikon d50 battery grip review PICS~
i recently purchased a merkury innovations Nikon D50 Pro Battery Grip and i am writing a quick review on it.
specs
•holds two ENEL3 Batteries
•AA Adapter Plate Holds 6 AA batterys
•Provides Extended shooting time
•Improves stability
ok, lets explain some of the specs
it does hold 2 of the standard Nikon lithium ion batterys.
the AA adapter holds 6 AA battery's, very cool
it does provide extended shooting time, aprox. twice as much time.
i noticed that my hands stopped shaking and i was more stable holding it w/ the battery grip.
i love this thing, it came today and i was surprised on how sturdy it is, it is made out of the same material the D50 is made out of and it flows with the lines of the camera. I could probably throw this as hard as i could on a brick wall and it wouldn't brake. it is a tad heavy but i got use to it fairly quickly.
it is very good looking and is easy to install, just pop the battery door out, store the battery door in the hidden compartment in the grip, insert the grip, twist the knob tight and your good to go.
The grip does have the standard tripod mount threading and was very stable on my $5.99 tripod. the main reason i got this was because i am going to Italy, Greece, and Germany in 8 days and i didn't want to spend a lot on the transformer and adapters to charge the li-ion battery and thought, "hey, they make a battery grip for the d50, right?" the company had very fast shipping, actually, i just ordered it Monday and it came today via ups ground, great job ups!
at first i thought i was going to get scammed because i got this for so cheap, but it pulled through.
pics!-

Oh HOLLER!
|
Is that a vertical grip (With the vertical shutter release button), or just a battery grip?

Looks like no controls. that would annoy me.
edit: lol, I like how the box has a Canon camera on it.

Yea that grip would drive me crazy. no controls and I don't see any "grippy" surface.

Link Delight has a vertical shutter grip for the D50 that uses the IR remote's reciever. Not sure if you can shoot contiunuosly with it though.

meh, I've heard the whole IR workaround doesn't work too well. and sadly that only gives you a shutter. To warrant that much higher price I would want features that are simply not possible.

My grip has an AF lock button, exposure compensation button, focus point selection button, a wheel, and a shutter button.
What a good set of features does is make it so that you have the same exact controls available when shooting vertical as you would have shooting horizontal.
