I had them in black on mid/low heat for 16 hours, no color change. Mine are the blue nose, grey inserts.

This is directly from VForce when asked about the dye coming of the Nightmare edition Grills. Just posting for informational purposes only.

"The nightmare goggles have been specially treated to allow the nightmare pattern to adhere. That is most likely the reason your attempt to color the mask has resulted in wash-off of the dye. Dying masks is definitely not recommended. Depending on the process used to dye the mask, it may have weakened the structure of the mask or cause it to degrade over time."

It would be difficult to achieve a red by dying a blue mask. White would more easily dye to any color, but your best bet would probably be to just buy the red bottoms or frames you need. You can typically find either part for around $15-$20 on the BST.

Eflexes don't take dye. I've tired for hours.

not sure if it helps but found these through google. Seems the white frames take a light shade of dye at least.

I tried to dye my flex 8 yesterday and had no luck. I followed the instructions on the 1st page (scrub with acetone, boil water, pour boiled water into container, mix in dye, let mask sit in the dye).

I'm thinking about trying some of the stuff I read a few pages back. I guess I need to get a large cooking pot and basically keep the water very hot, mix in the dye, and then submerge the mask (while it's still on the heat).

Is the second method guaranteed to work? I'm just sorta confused why the first method didn't have any success. Did JT change something with the way they make masks lately?

Yeah, the newer run of Flex 8 bottoms (with the "racing" JT logo on the top and no logo on the sides of the nose) definitely does not take dye as well as the earlier "tribal JT logo" run.

That being said, I was able to dye mine using exactly the method you described.

Heat to 175-180 degrees, mix in the dye, and then submerge the bottoms. You don't need a huge pot, because it's really only the vents that you're dying. It shouldn't take too long in the heat, maybe 45 minutes or an hour to see a good black.

I let mine sit on the bottom of a stainless pot and didn't have a problem with melting.

Hmm, mine look like these -- http://empirepaintball.com/paintball...al-goggle-camo
I bought them new last year, so i'd assume they're the newer run.

I think I might have to try letting them sit on heat for about an hour or two. I might try that later this week.

Attempted to dye the new clear bottoms. They did not take dye after 8 Hrs in the solution. Rit dye will not permeate the clear rubber at all. (Even after cleaning them with acetone)
