I did my red flex8 a few months ago. I brought the pot to a boil and added the dye. Stirred it in, and put the bottoms in. Then I lowered the temp a little and let it sit in it for about an hour. Pulled it out, let it air dry and rinsed in ice cold water to set it.
This is now.

Back when I first did it.
It looks really nice when its really clean.

Has anyone tried doing a caddy?
First of all, one of them, the red one, has this ugly logo on it, and i've been trying to scratch it out with a blade, and nothing, so, i want to fade it black to red.
So has anyone tried on a caddy before?
Also, i don't know where did i saw that, boiling the water is mostly for fabrics, and it doesn't apply to plastics, how true is this?
OH well, anyways, here's the caddy now, i'll let you know how it went...
gunna try with some pods too, and if the red one comes out all right, i'll fade the white to orange.

Also anyone tried a helmet...I'm thinking about trying this Bell one that I got for free that has a desert digital camo pattern which I want to change to urban digital w/ some black dye. I know I will probably have to strip the clear coat just want to make sure I don't weaken the helmet since I like having my skull in one piece...

ok i have a few dumb questions.............
1) do you leave the foam on the frames when you dip them in the boiling water?
2) how do you get designs into the frame (or acid washed look)???

I'm in the process of dyeing my gold I3 pro bottums black. It looks like its working out reall well. 25 min in and most of the plastic is dust black. The other parts are more of a dark dark green.

Red...I dyed red frames just to experiment and it turned brownish. Or you could get clear frames and mix tan and brown. Idk if that will work though.

1. Yes. Just make sure you drain ALL of the dye a from the foam otherwise you'll look like a raccoon w/ the dye on yo face.
2. Experiment .

I definatly know what that is like.
When I wore my dyed frames someone called me a ninja turtle because of the bright red ring left around my face.

Ha. "Hey guys look its Raphael." On another note my I3 pros came out sick. The plastic part is black and the rupper turned a lighter grey, I kinda like the new look. Now the frames are being painted white with krylon fusion for plasics. If it eventually chips im just sanding it all of and plasti dipping it. Edit,**Pics wil be up in the next day or two when its done**

for both those of those questions.. a lot of plastics can not take the dye only a few select kinds. so it probly wouldnt work for a caddy or helmet.

some stickers work, just make sure you blow them before dying for about 20 seconds in each place the stickers are.

I don't think the events will take dye. But I could be wrong.

You can not dye anything lighter than what it already is so......black will not take any color dye no matter how long you leave it in the dye. Dyeing anything white is not possible since white is the absence of color.
