Final Scanned image
Sorry guys I didn't get finished, I am majorly OCDing about getting every detail perfect. I have done some major progress though. I will be at the art show tommorrow(friday) and Saturday if you are interested in more detail here is the website.
This drawing will be displayed there along with all of my other liquidlead drawings. If you make it, make sure to come up and say hi to me.
After I pulled the background completly back to white there are some alot of suttle details that I see that I need to pull, after I pulled the background the shirt looks flat to me and so does the googles and gun. my goal is not to have this looking photorealistic but rather 3d like it is popping out of the drawing board.
I guess that I will start out introducing myself, my name is Trent Tobler and I am a professional artist that studies with Liquid Lead Art Studios in Las Vegas, NV. You can check us out at www.liquidleadart.com
. I usually like to draw my interests, and paintball has been one of my big interests for the last 2 years.
I am currently working on a drawing of Thomas Taylor for my latest piece. I am going to be posting on this page my weekly progress until the drawing is done. My drawings take over 100 hours.
Our studio was just recently on the cover of the "Airbrush Technique" magazine. I thought that for this piece I would keep a chronological log on my drawing for our website and next magazine publication. As I was putting together the begginings of my log I thought that PBnation would appreciate if I posted it on ST so here we go.
The medium that I use is pencil, charcoal, and liquidlead. (an emulsified mixture of lead sprayed through an airbrush) I also use a variety of erasers.
This is after 5 hours. I have the basic object shapes and started to go in with some tinting with the airbrush.
I will keep posting as progress continues. Thanks for looking.
First, I just wanted to thank all you guys for your comments, I am used to getting commented, but not like this.
Second, people have wanted to know about buying it. My work is very expensive. It takes about 100 hours to do my drawings and I charge about $30 an hour, so you can do the math. However, I am going to sell prints of it. Our studio has a professional Epson Glicee printer and is capable of printing 18x24 prints. I am going to offer 2 choices in prints. One is on matte art paper, the other will be on unstreched Canvas which sometimes looks better than the original. The matte prints will go for $35 and the canvas will go for $90. Because of all the generous comments, I am going to hand sign every print that I sell on PBnation. If I ever get famous, then it will be worth money! Here's to hoping.
Don't worry guys, I am going to be drawing the Ego in all its glory, its to beautiful to not draw.
I am a little more than half way done with the mask and hair. There is alot more detail that I want to pull out of the hair but I am going to move on now and work on another area. I usually get an area about 60% done with a specific area, then move on to another area of the board.
Thanks again for you comments, guys it has really motivated me to make this my best drawing yet.
I was unsure how to approach the tank. I originally was going to just airbrush it but I saw alot of texture on it so I decided to go in with charcoal and then airbrush over the top of it. I am glad that I did, I think it is turning out nicely
putting the darks in the tank made me realize how much darker I need to go in the mask and hair.
Thanks again, I am probably going to move on to the rest of the head band now.
This drawing is going to be all in gray scale. I am not adding any color.
Yes, I know that I have not put the monkey with a gun.com logo on the head band.
I think that the head band looks really dark right now, but I think that once I add in the darks on the mask, jersey, and hair I think that it will work out perfect.
Thanks for the comments!
I am going to darken up the hair next.
Sadly I don't think that I will be finished in 100 hours. I think that with the detail on this that it will take like 150 hours.
there is still alot more detail that I want to pull from the mohawk. I think that it looks funny now because the buzzed part is so detailed and the mohawk is so plain.
Someone asked me to put something on the board so that you can get idea of the size of the board, so I put my buisness card on it.
The board is 20x30 CS10 illustration board.
Thanks again, I appreciate your support.
I got the mohawk in its final stages. I really wanted to exagerate it so I went over the black part of it with transparent black air brush paint. I think that it is looking nice.
Sorry Guys I don't think that there will be an update tommorrow. I am going pballing and I Have a test coming up, I am really behind in that cause I have put so much time into this drawing. Hopefully Sunday I will get around to it.
Thanks guys for your patience, I was really behind in my class and it took a long time to get caught up. I was able to work on it 4 hours today. I have decided to work on the gun (hurray!!). Right now it is in its beggining stages, don't worry I know that it looks kinda funny now, but it will be the best damn ego that you have ever seen.
I am not done with the gun, there is still alot more detail that I want to get on it.
I worked on it about 4 hours from the last update. All the work that I did was really minute and you couldn't tell much of a difference unless you got a close up. Keep in mind though that I am still not done, there are still things that I think I can do to make it better.
I started working on the gloves, They are going to take a long time, there is a massive amount of detail on them.
Well I thought that I was going to have alot to show you today because I spent 8 hours at the studio, but all I got done was the front part of the f***ing glove. It took me 4 hours to figure out how to get all those tiny threads in there and another 4 to actually do it. I erased the board raw in this region. But I am happy with the result. Now that I know how to do it I the rest of the glove will not take as long.
Here is a pic of my set up at the studio. This picture give you an idea of the size of the drawing.
I am going to work on the jersey tommorrow
Well I figured that I would post a picture of the whole thing this time.
This jersey is taking forever, I am going to try to be done with the drawing by this coming weekend (before the art show) I figure that I have about another 40-50 hours on it, so I have alot to do.
