Question fps math q

ok so a paintball leaves a barrel at somewhere from 280 to 300 fps, but with what velocity does it actually it you if say you are 50 feet, 25 ft or even 5 feet away? (i.e. how does wind resistance effect the flight of a paintball)

p.s. sorry if in the wrong forum but idk where to put it

I think this has to do with physics

A little algebra and Googling will answer your question.

you would have to use physics plus you would have to include a lot of variables, like altitude, wind speed, wind direction, direction shooting. It could be simply solved if you calculate it in a vacum but since none of use play in a vacum then there's no use.

the astronauts could probably play, though the tanks would explode. They could slingshot while on a spacewalk.

so your asking what your velocity would be if your 5 feet away from the point of impac of the ball or after 5 feet 25 feet, and 50 feet of the ball leaving the barrel.
Couldnt you stand 5, 25, 50 feet away from a chrono and get the velocity that way?

The different forces are all variables in this situation.
Initial velocity = 280 f/s
Wind resistance = ?
Rate of deceleration = ?

Just use the kinematic equations and go through a few steps (you, not us), and there's your answer.

The key part of this is finding the ballistic coefficient for a paintball. Once you have that, there are literally dozens of ballistic calculators out there that will give you the information you're after.

there are sooo many variables that change the experiment: wind resistance, temperature, shape of the paintball, mass of the paintball, acceleration, inertia, etc

you are looking for the final velocity within that range. but it wont be a BIG change from 25 to 50 feet

good thing to look at...

there are a lot of variebles affecting this problem. wind restatnce as u sed, paint size, how think your fill is everything that deals with physics, newtons laws, inertia and a million other things. ussly the fps is consistant over distance. it starts to move towarsd the ground but keeps the same fps for the most part..... simply i cant answer ur question and i dont know anyone that rlly can... if u rllllllly want.. get ur marker, put a chronogrph down range 50 feet or yeards wtv u want, and try to get a ball down there and record the velocity.... i doupht u will but hey

to many variables to figure out... Y does it matter? Its not like u can change it cause u can only shoot a certain barrel velocity so just deal w/ it...

thats real nice (would be even better if it took into account the the temperature and wind but still great nonetheless) thanks a lot

the reason i ask does not concern you but thanks so much for being such a huge help and not wasting my time
