anyone still do aurora?
hey guys ive recently seen some of the old aurora guns and thought they look really sick. ive searched around on the forums and a while ago some people said that 'someone' or 'some company' still does that style of plating. does anyone still do this type of plating and do you know who? if so any estimate how much it will cost for my impulse? also theyve perfected it so it probably wont ruin your gun right?

Definetly not perfected, actually far from it. The reason the bodies are destroyed is because of the quality of the metal. No offense to SP but they are not known for the best quality of aluminum. The process involves a lot of electricity going through the body and not many places can do this. Also if you can find some one it will be very expensive.

The aluminum is plated with titanium, then the titanium is chemically/electricly altered with 50,000-100,000 volts of electricity (correct me if i am wrong). All of this contributes to a very hard process, and nobody does it now.

Your best bet would be to look around for a gun that is already auroraed.

Buy me a book on how to do it and then all the equipment to do so, and i'd be more than happy to give it a whirl.

i work with tesla coils and other HV goodies that can produce 100kV+ without breaking a sweat. i'm interested on how they do this- maybe i could to it at home (after getting it plated)!
and i should be getting $750 for my stereo (in sig lol) and after hearing someone paid like 1000+ (maybe like 2000) for an aurora cocker, i can't buy one new. plus i didnt like the milling on the imp. i would spend maybe $300 tops on the aurora finish. i gotta spend a little less than $190 to get it milled by elia which wouldnt leave me with much to spend on my tesla coil.

IF you find anyone that does it, look to spend close to if not over a grand.
Also see if you can get a few parts plated by anyone and then try a little do it yourself although I wouldnt wanna mess with that kinda volts
EDIT READ THIS this was a statement from them and how risky of a process it was
Aurora cocker, perhaps no other name sends chills down spines like it does. Famed for their beauty, rarity and price tag, only 10 of these cockers were made, believed to be 5 hinge frames, 3 sliders and 2 with pre-release eblades (for two employees). The process called "Spectrum Physical Vapor Deposition" required 20,000 to 40,000 volts and had a 90% failure rate to make this plating and retailed as one of the most expensive paintball guns ever. Any impurity in the material would cause destruction fo the body. Although the process is used for knives and zippos, Aluminum like in a paintball gun body is very ill suited to the proccess and is the reason this process is so risky. Although a body might be made out of titanium or other material and plated, noone has so far attempted it to my knowledge. Shoe box shockers and bushmasters were also made, and although just as rare and beautiful, are also less desired and can be had for a fraction of the cost.
The process is like a laying down layers of material upon each other. When they first came out( correct my if Im wrong around 2002) They cost in excess of $1900 for the Eclipse Cockers. The shockers/ bushmasters were similar in cost but a little less.
There was a Aurora Bushy on Ebay which the body was becomming damaged(the process was chipping) and went for close to a grand. I personally wouldnt try it again because the fail ratio is very high compared to the success rate
Good luck and if you find someone I hope you have a wad of cash saved up

i mess with 500,000V on a daily basis. voltage is no big deal.

The fail vs success rate is at where you would only be successful 1 out of every 10 times. And its not like a math problem where you follow rules and you get the right answer. It delves into so many factors that almost all the time cant be accounted for

Most of the posts in this thread are incorrect. I recall sometime around last October a PBN member offered members of the MacDev forum his aurora plating. I'm not sure what his trick was or if he ever went through with it but the samples he showed weren't half bad and it was as expensive or less than annodizing.

What he did wasn’t the original aura process. I think he plated the guns in nickel or something along those lines then used less voltage. It was a much lower quality and the finish looked much more dull and non-noticeable. Correct me if im wrong im going completely off of a blurry memory.

fact is you cant get your gun aura plated, no one will do it, not even for a million dollars. and even if you did manage to some how find a way to get it done theres a 95% chance of you never seeing your gun again because it will be ****ed up.

Yes you can.. For a million dollars, you can get a bunch of guns aurora'd.
There is a 10% survival rate though hah.
