A verse that is much talked about. Taking the cross has been a subject for many years and has seen many applications.

I think the main message is the personal denial (denying your wishes, desires, wants and needs for Jesus) and following despite knowing that you will undoubtedly suffer.

The verse that always comes to mind:
2 Tim. 3:12 - Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

I know that this has been posted already but to me no other verse can encompass what Good Friday means to me than this one.

John 15:13
13Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Amazing love,
How can it be?
That You, my King would die for me?
Amazing love,
I know it’s true.
It’s my joy to honour You,
In all I do, I honour You.

I posted this in the Christ Krew thread, but it goes so well with today's verse Dre.

Quote:
Today is a day of reflection and solemness as we remember Jesus Death on the cross (which btw, had to have happened Thursday for him to be dead 3 and then arise).

I DO NOT DO that! I do cry and remember His death on the cross, but I cry over the fact that He did nothing and gave me everything. I mourn no loss, for I have not lost anything or anyone! I cry tears of JOY at the thought of this act of love.

People often quote passages and weep for the death that was so unjust (AND IT WAS!), but Christ knew full well this would happen and it HAD to happen this way! He willingly walked into an unfair trial and execution for us! FOR ME!

This passage today has ULTRA special meaning:

John 10:10 - The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Are you living that more abundant life He came to give you? How do you live your life knowing that He paid the price on your head?

If you aren't living that life, here is your chance to start! God has given you a precious gift today: LIFE! You are alive by God's grace and therefore have an opportunity to start living!

Abundant. Did you know it means rich with/of, full, plentiful? Compare that to how your life in Christ is. Is it a rich life in Christ? What are you lacking? Whatever it is, GO AFTER IT!

THAT is how we SHOULD celebrate Jesus' life and death today and EVERYDAY!

1 Corinthians 15:3-7
3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,
5 and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve.
6 After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep.
7 After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles.
8 Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

No words needed!

This passage always reminds of the Passion of the Christ.

I imagine Christ saying these words in His mind all the while being beaten, spit on, tortured and ridiculed. It is so humbling. On that note, it brings the message home. Any temptation I am facing, any hardship, I will face it with Christ and come out a victor!

1 Cor. 10:13 - No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

EDIT: Dre, I just noticed your sig and the passage above are related.

1 Cor. 10:13 is a great verse. I turn to that verse all the time. Just when I feel as if I have too much and I can't handle anymore. God is faithful and shelters me and gives me strength.

I think that "trial and error" portion is true for us all. When we think we can do it on our own, we fail. When we give it over to God, we triumph!

It's like His strength pushes us PAST our human limitations....

Great verse. really speaks to the fact that we are human yet we have Christ in us who through him all things are possible.

Long one today folks. Happy Friday.

John 12:37-50

37Even after Jesus had done all these miraculous signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. 38This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet:
"Lord, who has believed our message
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"

39For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:
40"He has blinded their eyes
and deadened their hearts,
so they can neither see with their eyes,
nor understand with their hearts,
nor turn—and I would heal them." 41Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus' glory and spoke about him.

42Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; 43for they loved praise from men more than praise from God.

44Then Jesus cried out, "When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. 45When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. 46I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

Haha! Makes for a great Hymn or spiritual song! Along the same lines:

Psalms 24:7-10
7 Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.
8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.
10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah

Another great one I missed.

Anyway, I find it interesting that it records that some of the Jewish leaders DID believe. I always understood that they were "too hard" to believe in Jesus. Considering that, this passage takes on new meaning:
1 Tim. 3:16 - And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.

This being written to Bible believing Jews, makes me wonder if the same Jewish leaders who believed rejoiced at this. They would see the Messiah once again. Hmmm.

Great thought and interesting find Dre.

Tough act to follow!

Interestingly, Jesus confirms that we WILL have trouble. However, Jesus starts off by reassuring His apostles (and you and me) with His peace, then he ends it with comfort by reminding us that though we face trouble, it is only temporary and that He is already a victor and us in Him! That reminds me of this:

Rom. 8:37-39
37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,
39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Amen!

Mark 12:17

17Then Jesus said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's."
And they were amazed at him.
