well id prefere a ul pm6 because they are more comfy, shoot really fast, are accurate and quieter than the etek. just feels alot more high quality. pm6';s have like 0 kick and are pretty quiet. pm6 all the way, and Ul pm6 all the way way way.

I put opinions in red for you.

Thats because it all comes down to your opinion and the feel of the marker for you, I choose the ETEk and it fits me like a glove. I have tried PM's and DM's and something just doesn't feel right, maybe its the weight distirbution or something, but i much prefer the ETek.

If you are getting them in the store or a proshop, try them out first or at least ask to hold them in your hand and try walking the trigger. Either gun you go with, you should be happy. I also find the ETek to be a better preforming gun than the PM6's as well. The ETek is more efficient and other things. If your used to spool based markers than that is no problem, but the ETek and its Ram based construction is much easier to understand/work on.

i would take an etek over a dm/pm especally the ul frame i have big hands. the frames on them are just too small it like im pulling the trigger with the base of my fingers rather than my fingertips.

UL frames are highly over rated. This coming from someone who has 2 ul'd minions, only way to make them feel right is with a scythe style trigger. I like the narrowness of the frame just think they could have moved the trigger out further.

And for everyone who keeps saying the ETEK is better then the 05 EGO I did a side by side comparrison with my 05 framed 1.06 ETEK and my 1.06 05 EGOand did a write up about a month ago, with the same mods cure bolt and ti rammer the 05 spanks the etek hands down in all categories and on a scale the weight difference was grams but when you remove the barrels they are darn near exact. So it makes sense the 14 inch shaft would weigh more than the 13 inch.

WinterGS owns a Planet Eclipse Geo
PMR vrs. ETEK

First and foremost, I have been playing for 20 years, and have owned almost anything you can imagine. I am also the lead Guntech at Skirmish USA, so not only do I see it, I tech it. Recently, we wanted to do a high end rental upgrade, and it came down to the Rail, and the ETEK...this is what we found..

Both guns that were shipped to us were bench testers, guns with broken in regs, and good use. Both used a VL Egg for a loader, and a 72ci 3000psi tank.

I almost forgot, thanks to both DYE and Planet for loaning us the guns...

First the E came in, jungle cammo, everything stock. It really felt great holding it, light and really smooth. We aired it, and turned the eyes off, and just started rolling off 15bps in about...that long. Its LOUD! Like mad dog barking WOOF! It chronoed at 260..flat and steady, with great(see autococker) range. Button was easy with and without gloves on, and the blinky lights were very helpful.

Next the Rail. Out of the box the body, which had been used, was really beautiful, the trigger frame, well, I wasnt happy with the plastic frame, or the trigger guard/sleeve. It was LIGHT!! Like feathers and puffy kittens light! We were amazed! Aired it up, and liked what we found..GREAT distance for 268-72fps, pretty quiet, and dammit light! One thing we found was that, we really couldnt get the trigger to go....not like the E. It took a bit of practice, and some thought, but it too, went right to 15bps. Now, the buttons, which are recessed, were a bit of a bother, at least for us. With gloves on you really couldnt "feel" the button, half the time you had to drop a glove. The lights were good, nice and bright.

To the meat of it. Both guns were run hard, by RENTAL players with various experience levels. One guy had a Cobra Angel that went boom and took out both guns...shot a case through each and logged his shot count/air use for me.

Rail shoots 1.5 balls per 1 lb of air
ETEK shoots 4.2 balls per 1 lb of air

...and I hate doing math

Both shot EXCELLENT! Biggest deciding factors? Air, and paint break

ETEK 5 cases, no breaks
Rail 5 cases, averaged 12 breaks per case

Also, the Hyper reg on the Rail kept climbing. Every day the guns went out they were chronoed at 265-70. The rail, on one day had climbed to 320.

Etek, has an LPR
Rail, no LPR

Both were shot in the rain, and 90 degree heat. Neither shut down.

When weighed with tank and loader (no paint) The ETEK was 4 oz heavier than the rail, but the people who shot the like the balance on the E better, which I thought was surprising. Many didnt like the plastic grip and trigger on the Rail, preferring the E frame. One young lady liked the weight of the Rail, but kept talking about having to come in for air all the time. She didnt like the ETEK grips, but loved that she could play longer.

When we broke both down for cleaning, the Rail breaks like a DM, screw the back cap (which again is plastic) and pull out the whole firing internals. The E, pop the bolt pin, and swab away! we deliberatly DIDNT do more than that for 2 weeks with either gun. Both kept going...and going and going.

On the ETEK, nothing was replaced
On the Rail, we had to replace the sail ring, front bolt ring, and 2 back cap rings, not to mention the Hyper reg needed to be rebuilt.

Personally, I liked the ETEK, and NO, Im NOT sponsored by them, the Rail, while light and really good looking, was not a popular choice with the players. The E was more requested and generally liked better.

As a personal gun, the Rail is fine, if you want to go for the upgrades (UL frame, aluminum cap, ect) If someone who bought it, and took care of it like it needs, the gun is great.

The E it a more sturdy gun, with more to offer, I think

ETEK: Air efficent, "feels" solid, user friendly, fast fast fast trigger!

Rail: NO weight to it!, Beautiful body, DAMN fast when you get used to it, quiet.

We went with the ETEKS, just for the performance, and , when looking down the road, the maintainance.

Hope this helped

i don't see why sound factors into anything. I got my etek today thinking it was gonna kick like a mule and be extremely loud like a timmy. Not even close its a nice popping sound that isnt ear shattering as everyone says. Barely any kick. But i guess if ur a girl and cant hold ur gun down i could see how it would effect you. Its just a quiet as a shocker just different sound.

SFT shocker has the magnetic return on trigger, NXT has spring

Speed
15 bps is 15bps. Ego, Shocker, Tippman or anything else - 15bps is just that.

Maintenance

Etek is pretty straightforward, two regs to grease, other parts get oil. NXT - Bolt gets grease and if you take apart solenoid it does as well.

After a day of play NXT needs the bolt assembly pulled and wiped down/relubed. Etek needs a little oil on the ram occasionally. Both markers need the regs lubed at about the same intervals, Etek has two, NXT has one.

Out of the box

NXT comes with a crappy feedneck as stock and needs an aftermarket board if you have problems with FSDO and are not able to correct with lube adjustment. Also many more o-rings on the NXT.

Forum support
Etek forum seems to have some Planet Eclipse folks around. Shocker forum has Andy from ZDSPB. Both forums have lots of other helpful folks and instance message support available as well.

Trigger
Etek has 3 point adjustment, NXT has 4 point adjustment (Pre-travel, post travel, activation point, return spring tension) Personal preference on how either feels & fires. Plenty of after market triggers for both, but both markers seem to have many who like the stock.

Peronaly its a definite over a pmr but you obviously have not shot a good timmy. I would take most timmys over alot of regular non etek egos
