Freak kit gog/empire

Is there any difference in quailty between the two. I like the look of the empire front a lot better but is it really worth the price difference. Being about $40 more then the gog at my local shop.

What's the nation think...

Ive heard repeatedly that the quality of the Empire inserts is lacking. Never owned one myself though...

What do you hope to gain from a new barrel? Frankly there are much better choices than the Freak system IMO but even then there is VERY little improvement to be had over a stock barrel.

I have both GOG, Empire and original SP. They all have quality issues.

If you want superior workmanship, I would say Lapco and CP.

Lurker and Inception both make a sweet barrel too. A little more updated than CP with a lot of science behind the design (porting, control bore length, etc.) with the Lurker barrel costing only a bit more than the CP.

To me the Freak system is almost trying to do too much at once. Theyre heavy unless you get a CF version (which can have its own issues), the inserts can be easily damaged (treated mine with care and they still got nicks and dings that eventually rendered some useless, stainless steel ones are more durable though), and extremely expensive among other issues.

I absolutely love my Eigenbarrel for 40 its a steal. Crazy amount of porting, very lightweight

My mini stock barrel just feels so cheap and I heard you get better efficiency and a straighter shot from a new barrel. Everyone always up talks the freak kits. I'm open to other ideas.

I've never had any issues with Freak inserts bending, chipping, dinging etc. I've always kept them in their case.

However, I've seen it happen.

The Eingenbarrel kit is a helluva deal.

i have the "old" SP inserts and i have no issues with them after 10 years. i have seen the issues in the Super freak kits. honing done poorly anno drips and so on i would go with the older FREAK inserts if you choose that route.

Actually for some time the GOG ones were known to have better finish quality than the Empire Kit. I believe they have improved since though and they seem pretty comparable anymore.

The efficiency increase isnt a ton but thats true if you underbore your paint. Barrels dont affect accuracy unless theyre dirty or damaged.
