Let's liven this section up.....

Alright guys, we all love our Impulses, at least I know I do. Let's see what active member has...

1) Been shooting one the longest

2) Put the most paint through it

I'm not even close, as I've only had mine since April and have put 3 cases through it. Even then, I haven't shot a stacked tube poppet marker that I prefer more.

Lurker barrels, Boss bolt, dwell @ 11ms, and pressures adjusted via recommended method to shoot 285 fps.

Lastly, those of you who have actually measured efficiency, I'd like to know who's got the best results.

This is just for fun to get a bit more discussion going on in here.

I only been shooting mine since May.

But I agree with you on Living this section up.

Lets post some action or pics too.

I just got ride of my Acid Wash Insight to come back the Impulse. I prefer poppits over spools and the feel of the inpulse is second to none imo.

That would be fantastic, as well. Let's get on it.

You ever gonna measure that Boss bolt for me?

Agreed. The marker feels absolutely perfect and is so light and balanced, as well.

imped- Sorry I forgot to get those measurements.... Sorry.

CRmoore- I loved my Insight. If it was not for it not to eat so much lube I would of kept the gun. But in PSP sometimes you shoot 6-7 cases in a day and the gun was only holding up to 3 1/2 cases max on one lubing.

No problem man. I asked Boss if there were any dimensional changes made to the bolt but he hasn't responded back yet.

Haven't been shooting mine long at all. Got it in May and have only played one event with it. Not sure how much paint I've put through it. Love mine.

I shoot a Eigenbarrel as well. Stock everything with LPR tuned per the recommended method. I think it still shook out around 2 turns in, which is what I initially set it at blindly.

No action shots yet. I'm waiting on the photographer to post pics of that tourney I played, but she seems to have fallen off of the face of the planet. I'll get some practice with it this weekend and another tournament next weekend, so maybe somebody will take pics then.

Had mine customized with some digital camo hyro film along with some other gear. I want to take some better pictures, but have been too lazy and keep forgetting:

Thanks for starting this thread man. I really want to see the JT section get more active.

Thanks Super, I know you've been high on the gun since picking it up. I've got a scenario event coming up next weekend and plan to use mine for most of it.....will probably go through 4 cases or so. Hopefully I can do a little tinkering and get a good efficiency reading. I'm hoping to land 1700 out of a full 68/4500 fill.

I've put two cases through mine since I got it back in March. Took my dwell down to 10ms but that's because I play between fields with a 285 and a 265 field limit. I only have one action shot with it but its not good enough to be worth posting.

I've also left mine pretty much stock. One of the appealing things to me when I got it was that I wouldn't have to spend time (researching) and money into upgrades for it. I've been thrilled so far.

It's said this gun doesn't get the attention it deserves.

I still need to do some more tinkering and pay more attention to the results but here are my thoughts on the Impulse in regards to dwell....

If you guys haven't noticed, the mechanical dwell (distance between valve closed to valve fully opened) on the Impulse is very short, shorter than any other poppet marker I can recall. That's why the electronic dwell (valve open time) needs to be more than most other poppet markers like the G6R (6ms), A1 Fly (6ms), etc. Either that's the reason or the bolt acceleration is slower than most, which would make sense because the ram is actually dual-stage. Or a combination of both.....

Either way, I'd like to do a bit more testing when it comes to the pressures and dwell, along with taking good notes on the results (consistency and efficiency). Maximizing efficiency without negatively effecting consistency is a goal of mine. This gun will be smooth as glass no matter where the regs are set so I'm not concerned with pressure. I'd like to think that amazing efficiency is possible with this marker.

Now this is the kind of discussion I like.

So what sort of tinkering can you do to really dial these in? I guess I'm pretty new to the whole gun "tuning" scene.

For dwell tuning, you just record a string of shots as you drop the dwell and when you see a consistency anomaly, you just bump one or two ms back up? I do believe that the longer dwell time is an attribute of the dual-stage ram like you said.

I don't mess with dwell tuning too often, because I'm not overly concerned with efficiency. In all my years I've playing, I've never known running out of air to be a problem for me. My tune priority probably goes consistency, smoothness then efficiency last.

So are you saying that you don't think the gun could get smoother with some reg pressure tuning or do you think the results would be negligible?

Any special method you plan on using for tuning? I've got a Virture Clock, a lot of air (though I can't fill to 4.5K since I'm filling off of a scuba tank) and a decent amount of paint (though not enough to do an efficiency test). So I've got equipment to screw around with it, but don't really know where I'd start.

There is little to no documented tinkering on these things so who knows how far the stock setup can go. I would like to think that ~1800 shots with excellent reliability and consistency can be had. I took the day off today so I may head to the field in a bit to mess around with it.

Imped, let me be the first to say that we appreciate you sacrificing a day of work for the greater paintball good. Its a thankless task, but someone had to do it I guess.

Got my impulse a month or two after they came out. I am pleased with it but I did have issues with the lpr gunking up. Also needing special tools to clean the HPR is a PITA.

I shoot my luxe over the impulse and impulse over my axe. I've put maybe 30-50 cases thru the impulse. Hard to tell because some practices we do 2-case days.

I wouldn't consider that a special tool but regardless, the snap ring can be easily removed with a pair of needle nose pliers. I use them since I don't carry snap ring pliers in my paintball tool box.

Ah, I forgot about the tiny inner snap ring. Just back the adjuster screw all the way out until it presses the ring out of the retaining groove. It doesn't even need to go back in but it's not difficult to push it down with a large allen key into its groove again if you want. I haven't used snap ring pliers on either of those rings.
