I think the universe is defined by our existence. If we don't exist, essentially the universe doesn't exist. (That is, from the perspective of the person who doesn't exist). Since the universe does exist to me, I must exist.

Youre not listening, Descartes was one theory and nothing set in concrete.
His senses may be able to be fooled into something, but it does not make it true to us and does not define our reality.
What I mean by that is that it doesn't matter what you believe to be true, it does not change what IS true. The universe effects our reality.
