Hell

Just curious as to what people's views are on hell. Some christians believe it is a physical place of eternal torment. Other believers take a lighter approach and simply refer to hell as "away from God", which in itself would be considered a form of torture, but not physical. What do you guys think?

When the end comes I picture the souls of those that will be in "hell" will be destroyed forever. The ultimate punishment. Being sent away for all eternity from the Lord. I don't believe that the souls in "hell" will be burning in fire or anything of the sorts. I actaully would picture it being a desolate place with nothingness. Then being destroyed forever. The rest will be next to the Lord warm, happy, and praising Him for all eternity! It will be awesome!

I think that the latter is just someone trying to comfort themselves or people around them.

I... I'm not really sure what Hell is - it could be a number of things. All I know is it'll be bad, and I do not want to be there. Whether it is eternal torture or a quick burning of your soul and you are dead forever are the two choices I see.

I don't belive in hell. I belive that you have one shot to go up. And if you don't make it then you just don't exist anymore. I belive that hell has been exagerated extensively to scare people into compliance with the religon.

I'm more of the line of thought that any hell is right here, right now. The world is so contrary to many religions' and beliefs' ideals or paradises that it's got to be the other extreme. That'd be hell.

I could be wrong, but there's where I stand on it.

I can see that. Hell is described as a place of terror, torture, pain and sin. Sounds like a lot of places on earth.

I've never read a post that seems so sarcastic with no dodgy.

If hell does exist, it's not physical. Just like heaven is not physical. If you go by the bible, it's beyond human understanding. That's how I view it. But if you believe in a heaven, you must believe in a counterpart.

Says who? The Bible says we'll have bodies.

Or, you could think of it like this:
Hell could be this right now. The things that happen to us in our lives. It could all be a challenge to make it to 'Eternal Life.'

How can heaven be physical if our corpses stay on the ground?

The Bible speaks about everyone being resurrected. Where ever your ashes or decayed corpse is, God will gather them back together and give you a body that will last forever.

Rev. 20
Quote:
11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

If hell is anywhere as bad as they say it is, God cannot truly love us. It doesn't make sense-we are given the free will to do whatever we want and we are given secular desires but if we don't do things God's way we burn for all eternity? Yeah, no.

God loving us is a theory, not really a fact.
