Heck knowing Jesus he always brings wine so he would be a good guy to have at a party. Not to mention all the bread and fish you can eat.

i dont think christmas is for the birthday of jesus, its about the idea of his birth. The story of his birth has been distorted over time, and so has the basic idea of christmas. today, its not about jesus

To me Xmas has nothing to do with religion. I started celebrating it when I was a child before I even knew what it was supposed to represent. I'm pretty sure it was that way for most people. So, I'd think that for most people Xmas was most likely about family and giving before it was about religion. I love Xmas because it is a rare opportunity to see a lot of my family that I don't normally get to see. Everyone will take time out to get together. I have a huge family. I have 7 siblings, 16 aunts and uncles, and over 40 first cousins. I love packing as many of them as possible into one house and eating a ****load of food together. It's just fun. Xmas is about family for me.

Hence my user title; trying to get the "Christ" back into Christmas !

Its so commercialized its ridiculous…

When I saw Trees in home depot the day after Halloween… I knew we were in trouble

Seem every year (starting about 7 yrs back) we start the commercial retail frenzy earlier and earlier…

notice how the non believers refer to it as "Xmas" rather that "Christmas".

Yes Christ is being X’s (phased) out

This week my local Mall was made to remove the nativity scene from the center display….

Weird tho, I’ve never taken offense to menorahs or anything else… I just let it be…

It has nothing to do with X'ing Christ out for me. Its just shorter and easier to write. I'ts a commonly used abbreviation so I use it. It isn't like seeing the word Christ hurts me in some way. When talking I say Christmas, when typing it's much easier to type Xmas.

X-rays are called Röntgen rays. But it isn't like I call them X-rays because the word Röntgen bothers me. It's a a shorter, easier way to type it.

Xristos=Christ in Koine Greek, and the use of just the capital X us sometimes used in many theological circles (depending on the knowledge level of Greek in that group). However, it is the "mas" part that is confusing to some. It really should be X-Mass or Xmass, with 2 s's, to be more correct in the usage. Mass is from Latin and literally means the ending of a service, but when capitalized it also means the celebration of Christ (in many forms). Depending on the dictionaries and lexicons used.
Xmas still refers to Jesus, although not many people realize that. I was going to state this, but Rambo already did it.

Get the media off of TV. It's portrayed as that it's all about gifts and what you (as a person) want. Probably one of the most selfish time of the year. It disgusts me.

I'm personally going to thank God for everyday that I live, and if my mom doesn't get me anything for Christmas, so be it.

For Christians Christmas is already about Christ right? He is the reason for the season for you guys right?

I don't see how you can change it on a large scale unless you find a way to convert a lot of non-Christians to Christians. The reason that Christmas seems less about Christ now is because there are more non Christians celebrating the holiday than there used to be.

because the rents don't know I don't believe in god and I still live under their roof. Also the gifts, getting together to see family and such. Hoidays for me are much more about fellowship than their historical origin.

their winter is the same time as ours. the southern hemisphere has winter when we have summer and vice versa.

as for Xmas... i haven't believed in god for a very long time. in fact, i'm not sure i ever really did, but i view xmas as more of a time to spend with family than anything else. my family is christian, so they all celebrate. my bro and i just go along with it. i guess if it really came down to it, i'd be just as happy saying i celebrate the winter solstice. but most people would give me a blank confused stare if i said that, so.... yeah.

EDIT: apparently, some of my points have already been addressed, but i don't really care. i'll leave them be.

Um...the winter in that area is so dry and harsh that there would be no way that the shephards would have been in the fields tending their flocks when the angels appeard to them the night the Lord was born. That is a fact.

There really isn't a way to center Jesus back on the holiday that is now celebrated. What christains can do though is make sure they lead their lives the way the Lord would want in order to make others want to ask what we have so we can tell them about Him. It is a small step but if we all do it more people will ask and more chance you could bring a friend to church.
