Well now folks lets jump right in shall we.

It answered questions when there were no answers. Things were blamed on God when we didn't know what else to blame them on. Now a days, we come to realize that there is an explanation for these things, and it just slows down science.

Religion gives salvation and inner peace to many millions of people around the world, I've seen it save lives of many people. And we've all seen it take lives of people as well. This argument is pointless, as Religion is niether good or bad for humanitary, but neccesary for the balance of the world.

I'm an atheist but religion gives a forum for those with the same believes to come together and commit to those beliefs which in most cases aren't the twisted crap that extremists spew (which are a small minority of any religion).

Like all things, it can be good or bad, depending on how people use or abuse it. It can do wonderful things, like give hope or inspire other people to do good, or it can be used to destroy others or inspire people to do evil.

The main argument against religion is "it starts wars". Wars will always be fought, religion or no religion...

What good does it do? Well, it gives character - stops many from breaking (or breaking repeatedly) the 10 Commandments.

Then there is the whole Mother Teresea thing. The woman did everything she did because of religion (or at least, that is how the rest of you will see it).

because despite my anti-religion stance, Even I believe in open comunication and dialog about it.

No no, my main argument is that it alters what would normaly be a open dialog and view, into a narrowed and singular view.

What? Why?

You do realize there have been millions of humans killeed because of religion?

I'd say it would be more of the opposite. If there was never a religion since the beginning, we would probably be at least fifty more years advanced.

missionary work is good if it is done correctly. when the church i go to does mission work they do not bring up religon unless asked why are you doing this or asked a question about religon. but like all things in christianity the wrong people get in charge and force their self important and hypocritical belief down starving peoples throat instead of food.

Personally I am an aetheist, but could you imagine what would happen if people started killing eachother without the threat of judgement in a next life?

Edit-...I am stupid, what about battles fought over the centuries based on religion?

Ha! Yeah, such advancements that have made it easier for mankind to destroy each other. Thanks science...

Overbear, if anything you should blame your own homosexuality for the perpetuating of religion. Think about it; what does the church require of its servants? Chaste individuals who acknowledge the pangs of their own guilt and seek to make recompense for it. So what better way to serve a religion, which would otherwise damn them for what they are, in hopes to find forgiveness. Plus as an added bonus they are surrounded by countless members of the same sex, which would only serve as a temptation of their wicked ways to fight to prove their righteousness to God. By supressing their own sexual urges and condeming those who don't, why they are only doing what they feel is right. Seriously, do you think a straight man would truely deny his own sexual desires and tendencies? To never know the touch of a woman? If you believe that then you should look under your keyboard to see if someone wrote "gullible" on it...

It was good at first because it gave us simple rules to live by but now we have changed and are sophisticated enough that we no longer should abide to rules made thousands of years ago.
