ion reg test

i heard from someone that an independent organization did some impartial trials on several different regulators, and the ion reg proved the most consistent. that's all i know. if you know what i'm talking about, do you know where to find the official results?

Sticky in the Air Systems forum, most likely. I've seen one that listed the AKA 2Liter as the most consistent but that test may have been done before the Ion was released.

The stock reg is good but it's not the best.

I think there was one on the AKA website, ill check.

--Er, couldnt find it. But i know the 2-liter was way up there. I think most regs can keep up with an ion, even one going 30bps.

the ion reg [ stock ] sucks, my suggestion would be a dye hyper 2 or a cp.

I can gurantee the Ion reg didn't prove most consistent out of all regs on the market. Probably not even out of all stock regs because of the stock Max Flows and Hyper 2s on Shockers and DMs/PMs respectively. Yes, the Ion reg is a decent stock reg for that price. It probably will never be any worse than +/- 7 if you maintain it. Once it's broken in, it will probably be around +/- 4 or 5 like Mbnt173 said. So it's decent, but not the best, good ones are +/- 2 or better.

Hmm a reg chart made by AKA and the AKA being on the top of the list......

I would never trust a reg test to a company trying to sell a competing product...

Jasoncho92 and 37bps, your posts show how much you dont know about the ION stock reg. The stock reg is KNOWN to be better than the CP. And if the Vert max flo's were superior to the IONs stock reg, then why in the world would the ION style reg would replace the vert max flo's on all of smartparts NXT line of guns?

QFT, Ion reg design has replaced Max Flo's, which are not that great, on the NXT Shocker and now its on the Epiphany. One thing I don't quite agree on is that stock regs are better than a CP. I have a had a few stock regs and most of them were around +/- 5, however I did have 1 Ion reg that was shooting +/- 2 after it was broken in good and then freshly relubed. My CP shoots about +/- 2. So that would be about equal to that particular stock reg. My Hyper 2 shoots +/- 1 right now, however I had another Hyper 2 that was not that great. So in conclusion I think it varies from reg to reg, but overall Ion regs are a decent stock reg. It is definately not the best, but its not the worst either. Some people on here are obviously basing there opinions on limited experience with probably one bad or poorly maintained Ion reg.

Its proven that while the consistency is not as good as a CP, the recharge rate is much faster/

Cool, good to know. Like I said I had 1 where the consistency was the same as the CP. So if the recharge is faster, then the Ion reg is definately a good reg. I always thought it was a good reg I don't know what these other people are talking about. I only got the CP because I like the way it looks, lol, oh and because I got it used for cheap.

Alot of times just replacing or flipping the piston base seal will turn a lemon Ion reg into a +/-2 fps performer. The Ion reg definitely requires more maintenance than other aftermarkets but, if done properly, it can perform with the CP's and Hypers.

When your cleaning your Ion regs, don't forget the inside surface of the spring seat where the piston slides through. This area can get grimey pretty fast and start to cause friction with the piston shaft.
